Are we becoming a bit smug?

I really hope not and I do think the vaccine programme has been amazing in its roll out (despite being very critical of much of the government's handling of this crisis) and really should mean we're nearing the end of restrictions.

However, I'm becoming uncomfortable with some of the reporting I'm seeing on what's going on pretty close to home, it feels like were gloating over how badly things are going in France and Germany, for example. I obviously hope it's not going to come back and bite us, but it feels a bit risky to be so smug at this early stage.

So nice the vaccine roll out has gone well, nice to have a break from negativity.

I haven't seen any smugness or gloating at all, only sympathy.

@Soothes
I'm not sure this, As of March 21, 2021, there have been 920,952 deaths across the whole of Europe due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) since the first recorded European death in France on February 15, 2020. The United Kingdom currently has the highest number of deaths in Europe, and has recorded 126,155 coronavirus deaths as of March 21. In Italy, there have been 104,942 confirmed deaths as a result of the coronavirus. really gives any country in the EU bragging or gloating rights.

We've been crap in many ways. But not in the vaccine roll out stakes.

I have to say I have not seem any such gloating on the media. Unless*@Soothes* can link to it?

I don’t think us feeling pleased about the vaccine rollout is smug. We’ve got plenty wrong! I know I look at Europe and feel glad to be in the U.K. at the mo but I’m sure they looked at us over Christmas & thought the same! Europe have been over cautious & very slow with the vaccines in my opinion and they’ve been slow to lock back down in the face of the Kent variant, I’m surprised they didn’t look at us & think oh shit, that’s what’s going to happen here!

Even if we do see a surge in cases again, it’s not because we’ve been smug. It’s a virus. We have very little control!

There may well be certain media outlets with their own agenda that want to put a positive spin on vaccine rollout to negate certain other statistics.

I saw a report on the BBC at the end of last week. The reporter was almost laughing that, although we would be able to travel, everywhere we usually travel to is going back into lockdown.
