Missing Vaccine Letter

Firstly, I'm in Scotland just for info as I know things are different in different places.

My husband is in his sixties and hasn't had a vaccine appointment letter yet. He wasn't registered with a GP for a long time and by the time I persuaded him to do it we're assuming that it was too late for the vaccine list.

He was advised by NHS Scotland to fill in a form if he felt he'd been missed out, he did that, and then they emailed him to say that he wasn't on their system. The health board would be looking into it and to phone the telephone number they provided if he didn't hear anything in a week.

He phoned this morning only to be told that they couldn't find him on the system, the case would still be with the health board, and if he hadn't heard "soon" then to call back.

Does anyone know of anything else he can try? I have suggested that he might be able to try phoning again, and see if it's gone to the last address he was registered with a GP at, but just wondered if there was another option?

I would keep phoning, the number being given out is 0800 030 8013, my GP surgery Facebook post advised the over 60's to ring if they hadn't received a letter by 15th march. There was also an email address "direct" to Queen Nicola tre

Has he actually now registered with a GP? We were told this was the only way to get on the list. My DH was similarly not registered but we've applied for temporary GP registration for this very reason. Only this week though so we've not heard from them yet.

Our own GP (me & children registered) were not taking temporary registrations though so we went to the next town.

I found the helpline very friendly/helpful

Sorry, screen froze in post above! There was an email address that was meant to help resolve missing ones but my friend’s dad emailed them about his missing over 70 appointment and never got an answer! He got his by persisting with the 0800 number. I think I’ve read it’s option 2 when you get through.

But it won't be a missed letter if he was never on the list in the 1st place.

MaggieMagpie1 · 03/04/2021 10:34

Yes I understand that it won't be a missed letter if he wasn't on a list in the first place, so if that's the case where does he try?

He is registered now, he did that in January, and has had invitation for bowel screening at this address.

I'll see if I can get him to phone back, but because he's been told to wait then that's what he'll likely do!

if he's now registered with the GP he needs to chase up with the GP surely. Yes he may have missed getting on the list in the first place but that doesn't mean that he's missed the boat completely. They probably just need it pointing out that they have a new person on their books that is eligible for the vaccine.

Chase GP to arrange his date.

Be clear with him that persistent ringing is needed for action on this.

It is better if he does it but you can call too.....and email. Once something’s in writing with a paper trail, action is often more speedy.

Tell him to not worry about being a pest. If he gets Covid he will be much more of a pest!
