Anyone else regretting their choice to get vaccinated?

538 replies

onthetracks · 03/04/2021 09:27

I had my first vaccine 4 weeks ago (AZ)
I was really put off my having it and didn’t feel 100% happy, but since I’m clinically vulnerable to Covid and I also look after my elderly grandmother who is Clinically extremely l vulnerable, i thought it was the right thing to do.

Since having the vaccine I read no end of negative reports, side effects, blood clots and now deaths.

I’m terrified that I’m going to develop a blood clot and die.

I know this may sound irrational, which is surprising for me as I’m usually able to rationalise things.
But I can’t help feeling that it’s all been a bit rushed.
We’re all so desperate for normal life that we’ve jumped at the chance to be injected with something that we don’t actually know is safe.

Only now that millions of people are having the vaccine are we being alerted to adverse effects.

I’m really starting to regret that I’ve had the vaccine and I honestly don’t think I will go for my 2nd jab. 😣

Does anyone have any links or info re length of side effects affecting your health?
I had Pfizer 6 weeks ago and still not 100%. Fstigue and breathlessness are my issues now. The yellow book doesn't say anything about how long ppl have suffered.
Thanks

@Susan333

There's no point people getting worked up online about it, even if you get through the first 2 jabs without issues , the booster jabs await in October and according to hancock could be every 6 months. If you don't take the vaccines, you won't be able to live your life with all kinds of things inaccessible - it's disgusting but it is what it is
That’s similar apathy to what the German population said about the Nazis. What about when children need to also have jabs every 6 months to be educated? Anyone who thinks that excluding people from travel / pubs / events is the end of this is deluded
pinkearedcow · 03/04/2021 17:53
@pinkearedcow No, I’ve said that no posting history doesn’t mean new poster and that I sometimes change my name to stop people snooping through my posts, as this poster had clearly tried to do (to the OP, not me).

If you REALLY think I’m the OP, starting dozens of threads in my one woman battle against vaccines and then name changing and replying to myself on them and you’ve caught me out, just check with Mumsnet and they’ll be able to clear that up for you. Confused
OK, fair enough. I didn't quite get what you were saying, apologies.

Christ! 😂

Sorry you’ve been dragged into this. Confused

Boringlynormal · 03/04/2021 17:55

I might be naive but I don’t think the passports thing is going to become an issue. Maybe for travel and big events.

HildegardeCrowe · 03/04/2021 17:56

It’s your choice OP as to whether to have the second dose or not. Weigh up the pros and cons and look at the facts but don’t expect too many people to quite get what your concerns are. And what’s disgusting about having to have repeated jabs @Susan333? What’s deplorable is the situation we’ve been in for over a year, do you really want to see no end to this?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/04/2021 17:57

I can understand it for travel. Why wouldn't countries make it a condition of entry? You need vaccinations for some countries now so why should this be any different

Boringlynormal · 03/04/2021 17:59

@onthetracks It just blows my mind that people can’t see that the news from the Netherlands, Canada and Germany in the past week, plus the U.K. confirming more cases and some deaths just yesterday would be concerning for the recently vaccinated. I think/bloody hope when I’m as far past vaccine as you as that’s what I’m holding out for but HOW can people really not see that this is something that people who are not anti vax but in fact vaccinated would be anxious about? Honestly I wish I was bloody anti vax as it wouldn’t affect me then would I, and they always seem so confident in their position?! Grin

If i was of a cynical nature I might suspect a name change fail...I really hope that's not the case.
@BoringlyNormal posted an OP on the same topic, though more for reassurance rather than spreading any alarm; she has a style that means I'm fairly sure she has posted quite regularly in these parts.
partyatthepalace · 03/04/2021 18:02

@Quit4me

Honestly don’t compare the rise of a vaccination programme to the rise of the third Reich, it is in poor taste, to say the least.

I’m expressing how I feel about having had the vaccine!!

There are plenty of things deplorable about what is effectively enforced vaccination where as human beings we are surrendering control of our own health to the state and anyone not wishing to do so is ostracized from society. Past generations have fought wars for rights you take for granted today and meekly accepting jabs when you don't wish to is what I said, utterly disgusting.

Vaccines should be a personal choice for the individual, not for any government to be told you have to have them to fit into society

Marguerite2000 · 03/04/2021 18:16

I had my first dose of AZ a month ago, and don't regret it in the slightest. On the contrary, I feel extremely thankful and can't wait for my second dose.
There's always a risk in any activity, but the risks of being vaccinated with AZ are absolutely tiny. Thirty one cases out of 18 million doses, that's probably as safe as possible.

MRex · 03/04/2021 18:20

@onthetracks

 1. But I can’t help feeling that it’s all been a bit rushed.
 2. We’re all so desperate for normal life that we’ve jumped at the chance to be injected with something that we don’t actually know is safe.
 3. Only now that millions of people are having the vaccine are we being alerted to adverse effects. These are statements that come across as intending to inspire concern in others, rather than looking for reassurance regarding your anxieties. If that wasn't your intent, then that's all good, I was only explaining that you are clearly two different people.

I hope you'll be able to confirm that the links posted have reassured you and helped your understanding on your first and third points. The many answers highlighting the probabilities should have helped a little with the second. If you have remaining anxiety then fair enough, we all have times when it's difficult to squash the "what if" fears, but by day 17 onwards nobody so far has experienced these side effects so it's worth trying to relax.

Well, sometimes that's the downside of being part of a society. Individuals can't always do what they choose to do.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 03/04/2021 18:22

No

DianaT1969 · 03/04/2021 18:25

Gosh no! So relieved! You only have to read a news report for one minute to see that if you had the jab 4 weeks ago then you passed the time a blood clot might occur!

User5485421134 · 03/04/2021 18:25

Sorry but that's total garbage. Severe means hospitalised. Barely anyone has been hospitalised with a suspected side effect to any of the covid vaccines.

The definition of "severe" used when talking colloquially over chat, meaning serious enough to leave you bedridden for 1-2 days and will interrupt work or childcare. Mild is feeling grotty but still being able to get about your day.

But thanks for being the MN language police!

Susan333 · 03/04/2021 18:26

so if a 20 year old at no real risk of covid takes the vaccine and is one of the extremely unfortunate few who have serious complications, that's ok because it's for the " greater good"? As the earlier poster said, you sound like you are posting Nazi propaganda and that sort of society is not one I wish to be part of. Body autonomy is a fundamental right for every human being yet people like you believe that if a few are sacrificed for " the greater good" it is acceptable.. what an obnoxious individual you are.

Would you be prepared to tell the family of people who may have suffered blood clots that it's just one of those things they have had to do? There is a fundamental difference between shielding the vulnerable as best we can and enforced injected medication

Spodge · 03/04/2021 18:26

I'm delighted to have had my first jab and will be very pleased when I have had the follow-up.

As far as I know, a link to blood clots has not been proven. With the numbers getting vaccinated you will see all kinds of things linked to it that have no connection whatsoever. They simply happened soon afterwards. You could ascribe a stubbed toe to the vaccine if you so chose.

@MRex

I genuinely wasn’t trying to inspire any concern in others.
That’s just how I’m feeling about having had the vaccine.

Why on Earth would you accept that as ‘it is what it is’? Confused Are people really ok with having to be vaccinated potentially every 6 months against something that is mild/asymptomatic for the vast majority, particularly in the younger groups?
OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 03/04/2021 18:33

I very very anti antivax however I think all the publicity that this has garnered is causing more concern that probably needed. It's not unusual for newer drugs/vaccines to go through phases like this, the difference is this is hitting headlines whereas most barely get a passing nod in a medical journal and tbh I do understand why this is causing concern for some people. That said the balance of probabilities (even if this was shown to be the cause) doesn't make the vaccine unsafe, except for perhaps certain groups of people. Covid itself is far more likely to cause these problems if caught.

Personally I'd rather the appropriate bodies were taking this all seriously and not trying to brush it under the carpet.

But to the question, no I don't regret my decision to take the vaccine at all.
