I'm at the end of my tether with this with more countries being added. I was hoping to go and see my in laws at some point this year, they are living on their own in a red list country . So far it's not come off the list but more countries being added makes me wonder when will this all end.

They are desperate to see their grandchildren and it's breaking my heart that they haven't met in over 2 years and it may be another year untill they do 😞

I'm sorry, it's terrible, but hang in there is all you can do for now.

Millions have suffered so much already, but it would be a slap in their faces to throw away all that self sacrifice by being too "free" too soon.

The very very last thing anyone wants is another severe lockdown and back to square one.

History books for the rest of time will relate this pandemic, and the part people played in it. Be one of the heroes.

I'm sorry but I would be really surprised and frankly pretty cross of the borders were opened any time soon. The absolute last thing we need is to import more variants of covid now.
I'm sorry your in laws are so far away and that there is no way you will see them this year. But we need to focus on what's best for the country as a whole right now.

I dont see an end to the variable situation and they are popping up everywhere. Read an article recently where they are saying that there may be at least 4000 variants.

Just hoping this ends sooner rather than later 🤞

The government may announce when it will end for some countries on Monday. Though it will not end until May 17th at the earliest. That may not be of great help @Liveandletlive3 if your family live in a red list country.

It’s not safe to travel with variants so it’s right to have measures in place. It’s not been banned or quarantine measures in place for two years though.

TreeDice · 03/04/2021 09:11

Last thing we need is unchecked international travel. We need to remember that a lot of countries have had a similar system (or even stricter!) in place since last Feb/Mar.

I appreciate that it must even really difficult for those with friends/family in other countries but this is about the big picture.

Hopefully we're in a better place soon with testing, tracking and treating variants.

I'd prefer to be tagged than stay in a shitty airport hotel! I'm sure I read somewhere that Israel were trialling this.

(I'm thinking if the government want this to be a long term measure rather than just this year)

This sounds far more reasonable than having to fork out for hotel quarantine at extortionate prices.

Why hadn't you seen them for over a year before lockdown?
