But if you're still unwell you should stay off even if its not covid

damppatchnot · 30/03/2021 23:11

I rang to say it was negative after lunch and they asked me to come in then !

Well now you phone in sick rather than isolating if you're too ill to go in.

dementedpixie · 30/03/2021 23:14

But if you're still feverish then you could have another virus you could spread. I wouldn't go in tbh

I'd start with a retest.

However, a friend of mine was really unwell too, he had a (routine) LFT (he was only feeling tired at that stage and in our 50's that isnt that unusual), then on was very unwell 2 Sm days later (no energy, headache, cough) so dent home from work, had to do a OCR (negative) finally got a Drs apt, sent straight to hospital as worried about his heart etc. Loads of tests etc. Turns out he had the flu! Proper flu. Now he's been extremely careful, wears a mask pretty much anytime out if the house & at work etc. But managed to pick up flu. 🙄. Two weeks later he's starting to feel a bit better.

Hope you feel better soon!

Was the test a lateral flow or a PCR? Lateral flow tests will only detect 7 out of 10 positive cases so quite a high proportion of false negatives. Even PCR tests are not 100% accurate , I have two friends who tested negative on PCR but were later confirmed positive for Covid- one was hospitalised and X-rays and ongoing symptoms confirmed diagnosis. Another had typical symptoms of Covid when we had an outbreak at work and though tested negative at the time, was found to have antibodies later. Luckily they were self isolating anyway due to contact with a positive case.

It was a pcr but I struggled with the tonsil swab tbh

I’ve had one vaccine AZ. 8 weeks ago and the symptoms are the same as how I felt post vaccine

I had a winter bug

Tested for covid, negative. Other bugs are available!

Hope you feel better asap.

I would retest. I had a friend who tested negative on her first test at the early stage of symptoms. She tested a couple of days later when her symptoms he got worse and it was positive.

louisejxxx · 31/03/2021 07:33

Definitely retest - I did one and it came back negative, but I suspect I didn’t swab effectively. 2nd one came back positive 2 days later. I’d already been feverish and achy when I had the first test.
