That's in ds year alone and 1 from a friends school.
But ds school even if pcr is negative they still have to stay off the 10 days! Their rules.
Wtf.

And out of curiosity what test goes for the daily cases figures? As the LFT are reported online?

All 3 +LFT in DS’s school year turned out -on PCR but all close contacts needed to stay isolated for the full 10 days. It’s a really stupid rule.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 30/03/2021 20:08

And that's why I'm not doing them.

BluntlySpoken · 30/03/2021 21:29

I've told ds he can stop doing them. Because i now realise how utterly shite they are. But he wants to do them. He says he likes it?

Surely it's better to do them, just in case the odd case does get picked up this way. For the sake of everyone really.

duffeldaisy · 30/03/2021 22:23

The odds of having 3 + LFTs that all turned out to be - on PCR are staggeringly low.
It’s much less than 1 in 1000 for one, so I reckon it’s more likely there’s a fault in that area’s batch of PCR tests. I’d definitely report it to the testing centre and ask for another PCR test for the families.

False negatives make sense from the variability of people testing themselves and the flaws in detection rate, but false positives are extremely hard to get unless something weird has happened.

If there's 8 cases in one year it's very unlikely that they're false positives. I'd say more likely that they're telling you they got a -ve pcr when they haven't bothered going for one.

In answer to the question about reporting - yes, positive LFDs are included in daily cases reported. They remain in the figures even if they are subsequently PCR negative
