Covid and periods

I’ve seen quite a few threads recently about the impact of vaccine on menstrual cycle and been reminded of some discussions earlier on in the pandemic about the impact of Covid infection itself.

I had suspected Covid in spring 2020 before testing was available, and then went 2.5 months without a period (regular before and since).

Anyone else?

yep, I had it at Christmas and skipped my periods in Jan and Feb. Thought it was start of menopause, I'm 49!

QwertyGirly · 30/03/2021 11:58

I think there are three active threads about this at the moment on the Coronavirus board.

CooDeGrass · 30/03/2021 12:55

Thanks QwertyGirly

Threads on the vaccine or Covid itself?

Here is one www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4169932-Menstrual-changes-after-AZ-vaccine let me see if I can find the other ones

CooDeGrass · 30/03/2021 13:11

Thanks - I think that’s about effects of the vaccine? (I agree, there’s been a lot of threads recently about that).

I’m wondering more about the effects of Covid itself; there were some threads about this last year, but I’m interested in hearing if anyone who had a confirmed positive had changes in their cycle afterwards.

Yes you are right, but some people on those posts reported that they had covid and skipped their periods too.

I tested positive on 26 December, and was supposed to have my periods on 3-4 Jan, didn't happen, then 2 Feb, didn't happen either. I ended up with periods on 18th March. I was pretty run down, fatigue, shortness of breath, but no coughing.

FakeFruitShoot · 30/03/2021 13:22

There's a study being done on this

Oh thank you, sorry, crossed wires.

I didn’t actually go into those threads as I’ve not had the vaccine (and at 49, might not for a while yet - hence renewed interest in whether I did actually have covid last year)

I had covid a month ago and my period came a week early 🤷‍♀️

cannaethink · 30/03/2021 16:49

I had covid last March (untested) and my periods are still all over the place a year on. And my periods bring back some of my symptoms.

boogiebogie · 30/03/2021 18:15

Yes! Unconfirmed as feb 2020 but every symptom... No period for 3 or 4 months. I thought menopause too!

annlee3817 · 30/03/2021 22:14

First one after covid was four days early, and second one was two days late, they've been weird in that I'm only heavy for a day really and then spotting in the lead up to the heavy day. Also had spotting mid month, I'm never late, or early, and don't have spotting, was beginning of Feb 21 that I had it, I put the periods down to being run down

knocke · 30/03/2021 22:15

Yes I'm regular to the day & had suspected covid (test was lost) & my period was late by 5 days. Waiting to see if it was a one of. Plus I've had a number of other infections, hospital admissions & operations & still always been regular so I don't think it was down to being ill/stressed.

knocke · 30/03/2021 22:17

I've had my vaccine recently despite being in my 30s (group 6) so it will be interesting if that has an impact. I had a rough evening the night of my jab symptoms wise.

sachaf08 · 30/03/2021 22:20

This is making me wonder if the weird cold I had in late February might have been Covid- I skipped my period the following month which has never happened before, and got so confused with my cycle that I ended up accidentally pregnant the month after, the result is asleep next to me right now 😂

womanity · 31/03/2021 00:26

Unconfirmed covid in Feb 2020 here too, and then no period for 4 months.

Oh wow, congratulations!

Re symptoms recurring around the same time as periods, yes, this was definitely the case here though seems to be wearing off 12 months on.

And like pp, have previously had clockwork cycles despite illness and stress.

Will be interesting to see what research eventually says.

womanity · 31/03/2021 08:14

Now I think about it, I’ve had recurring sore eyes since covid. Most recently it definitely coincided with my period - I’ve no idea about before that but I’ll pay attention now.

sacha, huge congratulations!

NinDS · 20/04/2021 21:32

Hi and sorry to burst into this thread! Both myself and my daughter had covid a month ago and have since not had our expected and predictable periods. Felt rubbish at the time of period and had weird cramping (myself not my daughter) but nothing to show. I’m sure covid has a part to play in this as we’re both totally regular normally. Anyone else recently had this?

Wineloffa · 20/04/2021 21:39

I had Covid in January and my first period afterwards was absolutely dreadful. I was in absolute agony with cramps for days. Hands down the most painful period of my entire life. My periods since have all been weirdly short, lasting only 3 - 4 days and lighter than they used to be.
