Offered the Covid Vaccine..

Today I’ve been offered the Covid vaccine and I’m worried as to why? I’m 29 and fine nothing wrong with me that I know of. About 3/4 years ago I was in a coma on holiday, I caught pneumonia and got mild scarring on my lungs, I also used to suffer from asthma as a child (not any more) . I haven’t been asked to shield throughout this.. I’m wondering why I’m being offered it now.. is it because of my lungs maybe? I did try to ask the receptionist but she just said they had been given new lists of people this week including asthma etc.

Just take it, you've had lung problems so must be considered more vulnerable.

XenoBitch · 24/03/2021 14:31

Sounds like you answered your own question.
If you want the vaccine then accept the invite and get it booked. You wont be depriving anyone else of it if you do so.

It doesn't matter why, just go. It's more trouble for them if you ring up and query it. No need to be noble, everyone will get them eventually.

You've got a few risk factors there, OP.
You got thru phone to speak to a receptionist - well done!

Hope they send you to a jab centre < 1 hour drive away.

ekidmxcl · 24/03/2021 14:46

Seriously I wouldn’t spend a second more wondering why. Just get that jab!

HadEnoughOfBears · 24/03/2021 14:50

Yes it will be because of something historical.
Just take it.

I would have thought with pneumonia you would have been offered the vaccine, my 55 year old neighbour had it last year and has been shielding ever since, but had her vaccine about 5 weeks ago.

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 24/03/2021 15:01

Are you being offered it through a hospital Trust where you were an inpatient? We're currently offering historical patients vaccines. We're so far down that list in priority order that many of the patients that I now vaccinate are young and "healthy".

Summergirl76 · 24/03/2021 15:04

You definitely sound clinically at risk, a friend has also had it after being in a coma from pneumonia but he was asked to shield too.

ifonly4 · 24/03/2021 15:19

I've had pneumonia twice (and believe me I felt awful, so don't want covid) and wasn't offered mine early as vulnerable.
