Reporting a Breach

My friend told me that back in January she reported her neighbours for having house parties each weekend. She said she had to provide her name and email address. She never had any follow up correspondence and the parties have continued. She is worried about making a further report in case her name is mentioned to the neighbours as they have some alcohol issues and although plesant when sober they can be unpredictable and agressive when drunk. I highly doubt this will happen but does anyone know for sure how discreet the police are being about these things?

Email address?? She reported it online?? They probably haven't got round to reading the report yet lol

Note, the police should treat the information as confidential.

Would be confidential surely? How big is your street? How likely are other neighbours to report this too?! Could be anyone who’s reported them for all they know!

I think it really depends on your local policing priorities whether the reports are acted on. Some forces have more or less said that they won’t be attending reports of small house gatherings because they don’t have the resources to deal with endless neighbour tittle tattle / people trying to get someone they don’t like into trouble etc.

I’m sure if your friend is really genuinely concerned about these parties (as opposed to just being a bit of a busybody) she can report online with a fake name and address. But ultimately, if they’re visited they’ll have a good idea that it’s going to have been one of their immediate neighbours who reported them, there’s really no concealing that.

Wouldn’t like to be in your friends shoes if they ever find out if it’s followed up. Probably depends on how sympathetic the police are to snitches. If they aren’t, she most likely can expect a turd through her letter box. Me, I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night for the worry.

Your friend should mind her own business and concentrate on her own life. Reporting neighbours is the lowest of the low!

Pastnowfuture · 24/03/2021 19:36

@Katie517 I find your comment quite ridiculous. The lowest of the low in most peoples eyes would be murderers, rapists and paedophiles.

Thank you for all the helpful comments. My friend is lovely and definately not a busybody. She is outside of her comfort zone making a report to police but there are vulnerable people attending the neighbour's house and she is genuinely concerned.

It should be confidential but always, always use fake names and throwaway/not a real name email address for online stuff like this.

Twats having parties are the lowest of the low.

Your friend needs to get a life.
