Astrazenica side effect? ...Jaw Pain

Had my 1st jab yesterday. Felt absolutely fine then when eating lunch started to experience a deep pain simultaneously in jaw and temple when chewing. Now can't open mouth very wide without pain. Also feel it into side of my throat. Just wondering if it could be a side effect....any one else? Dr Google says it could be stress related....had a very stressful week last week with one thing and another Sad....hope it disappears as fast as it appeared !!

Do report it here. If other people have reported the same then it will will be recorded as a side effect. I clench my teeth/jaw in my sleep during stressful times but haven’t ever been unable my mouth! I hope it eases soon.

Could it be toothache?

Fudgecakes · 22/03/2021 15:31

Thanks @Everythingiswonderful....I'll do that. No definitely not tooth ache....it's all in my jaw

To be honest if you have had a stressful week you have probably been clenching your jaw whilst asleep. It happened to me once during a stressful time, and I was shocked to discover I had been grinding my teeth in the night.

Chillychangchoo · 22/03/2021 15:53

Forgot to add, just get a hot water bottle for now on it, soft foods and de stress and it will subside. Failing that a mouth guard helps whilst you sleep.

PurpleDaisies · 22/03/2021 15:55

You can report it but it sounds like it’s not related. I’ve got the same right now and no jab yet for me.

minniemoocher · 22/03/2021 15:57

Me!!! It's wearing off now 10 days on but I thought it was just me!

I had had tooth work so initially though it was a recurrence but it wasn't

Fudgecakes · 22/03/2021 16:38

Interesting replies....thanks all. It could be either I guess. Just managed some hula hoops....nowhere near as painful as lunchtime....it does feel weird though like it could come on again any minute. I did take a naproxen earlier (which I take for back pain) so that may have helped. I'll try tge hit water bottle...thank you.

someone I work with got jaw pain after AZ.

bungobango · 22/03/2021 17:25

I had a cold in December and had jaw pain. I took first paracetamol but no luck so I took cocodamol. That worked. I didn't test for covid because I didn't have the main three symptoms but it could have been it. Dc were sneezing and dh had a mild cold.

PaperMonster · 22/03/2021 18:02

Actually, I did. But I hadn’t linked it to the jab despite it coming on after the jab. I have msk issues and have a weakness in my jaw on that side anyway so had put it down to that.

Fudgecakes · 22/03/2021 18:56

Thanks for all your replies. I'm beginning to suspect now that it could be related to long standing back/shoulder pain....lately I've been getting weird twinges in my neck and throat area. It may be aggravated by the recent stress but I'm wondering if my problems are further creeping upwards....oh crap Sad

Op I have shoulder pain issues and I've also felt a deep pain in my jaw today (vaccine yesterday). I'm hoping it's subsiding now, I've taken ibbroprufen

Barmcake · 22/03/2021 21:37

I got a pain in upper jaw after AZ vaccine, it didn’t last very long though.

Hope you feel better soon op

Fudgecakes · 22/03/2021 22:46

Thanks for the further replies....interesting that more of you experienced this sort of pain after the jab. Can't decide whether it's jabvrelated or not....maybe it is cos although I have back/shoulder issues I've never had this before so it's suspicious as it's come on after tge jab. Really hope it subsides by tomorrow as it's feeling worse tonight and Really stiff like my mouth really doesn't want to open! I think I'm getting anxious which us making it worse....im not very good at relaxing!

@Fudgecakes I had something like this! Two days after jab, a pain that came on very suddenly and fiercely, a bit like cramp. I couldn't work out whether it was in my ear or my jaw, but it slowly eased after I took paracetamol. Now my jaw clicks in a way it didn't before Confused

jawache · 16/06/2021 11:17

I ended up in hospital after first astrazeneca vaccine and after the second appear to have been left with permanent jaw pain, worse on waking and in evening and impossible to chew.
