Pfizer vaccine 2nd jab

Feeling really unwell after my second jab is this normal?
My first I only had a sore arm but I had the 2nd yesterday and since this morning have a fever (low) aches and pains, feeling really lightheaded and sick. Its like having mild flu or a bad cold. :(
I think I'm just surprised as my first went so smoothly, but this one I feel really out of it even with paracetamol. Any experiences?

Article recently on BBC science talked about stronger reactions on 2nd jab. Is normal

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/03/2021 09:39

There was another thread the other week about second doses and did seem like more people with Pfizer have reactions than the first. Where as the Oxford AZ seems to cause the reactions with the first dose.

Hope you feel better soon.

Ginmakesitallok · 22/03/2021 09:44

I had my 2nd pfizer yesterday. With 1st I just has a slightly sore arm - but today I have a headache and just feel like I could go back to bed. Not sure if it's all in my head though!

Bee2543 · 22/03/2021 14:26

Dreading my 2nd one this week. So many of us(work in care home) were really poorly after the first one. Many of us have already had covid which apparently gives a stronger immune response. I wonder how many staff will manage to turn up the day after....

Whichjab · 22/03/2021 14:29

From everything I've read (and I'm a little obsessed) the Pfizer has worse side effects on the second jab and the Az on the first. However I've struggled to find any real scientific data on this.

BountyIsUnderrated · 22/03/2021 15:08

So just to update my temperature has gone down to a reasonable level of 37.2.
Still getting flu like aches and pains and feel really woozy/lightheaded.
Think the painkillers might be wearing off as I've not taken any now since this morning...

Oh dear. I've got my 2nd next week.

Motorina · 22/03/2021 15:17

Having my second this evening. After the first I was properly poorly for 36 hours. Dreading this one.

I will report back tomorrow!

whatswithtodaytoday · 22/03/2021 15:18

My MIL has had both, no reaction to the first but felt rough for 48 hours with the second - nothing major, but a bit of a fever and very achey and tired. She was fine once it passed.

Sleephead1 · 22/03/2021 15:19

I had mine on Thursday the first I was fine and had no side effects but with the second I just feel really tired and washed out also felt a bit sick the first day. Even today I still feel tired.

Frazzled2207 · 22/03/2021 15:25

Sorry to hear people have been poorly. My parents have had four doses between them and no side effects other than a slightly sore arm.

BountyIsUnderrated · 22/03/2021 15:31

@Oblomov21

Honestly I've been sicker than this for me it's been like a mild flu.
I definitely felt a lot worse first thing this morning, when I woke up I felt properly sick and really hot now I feel more normal but just really achy and dizzy.
I would imagine feeling ill for a day is preferable to covid, I'm not trying to scare people as many of my coworkers have said they only had a sore arm.

Anecdotally apparently the first is bad if you’ve been exposed to covid and the second is bad if you haven’t. This seems to be true in my circle, everyone seems to be okay after a day or two of taking it easy though.

I think of it like your first exposure (vaccine or virus) is the course work then the jab is the exam.

littlebillie · 22/03/2021 20:38

Phizer is supposed to have a stronger second reaction whereas the AZ the first reaction is stronger.

BountyIsUnderrated · 23/03/2021 06:25

So just an update.

I went to bed feeling even worse last night with a temp again and aching all over.

But since waking up this morning have felt much better with just a sore arm and really achy lymph nodes. Smile

Had my 2nd Sunday. Went to work yesterday not feeling 100% but felt completely wiped out last night. Bed early and feeling better today.

Didn’t help that I got hit on my injection site which is tender.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 23/03/2021 07:06

I had swollen glands, and a red, hot arm at the injection site after my second.

Motorina · 23/03/2021 17:58

I said I would report back!

I had my second yesterday evening. I've had worsening pain in my arm during the day, which is now moderate and makes me not want to use it. I'm achy and limp. I've been shivery and struggling to get warm for most of the day, and now feel how and sweaty.

It's the same type of symptoms as after dose 1, but noticably less severe.

(Get your vaccine!)

Scottishgirl85 · 23/03/2021 18:02

Yes my husband was not well for 24 hours after 2nd pfizer (fine with 1st). Mild fever etc. I'd assume very normal and a sign it's done it's job as your immune system is responding to it:-)

bruffin · 23/03/2021 18:04

Dd had mild reaction to first and 2nd phizer, just felt tired. She is a vaccinator and thought 2nd was going to be worse, but wasnt bad.
I also think she had covid last march as she was ill when she was working in a Belgium hospital then

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 23/03/2021 18:05

Hope the side effects are continuing to wear off!

Had my 2nd 10 hours ago.

I know this is a bizarre question but did anyone else start sweating cat pee scented sweat soon after? I thought I was imagining it but it’s getting worse. I know it’s not my own personal hygiene as had a long shower and used a very flowery shower gel and applied roll on right before I went.

Going to take 2 paracetamol tonight to ward anything off.
