No - LFT tests aren't meant to be used for people with symptoms.

You all need to isolate, get a proper PCR test for your DD and only carry in as normal if that is negative

Everythingiswonderful · 20/03/2021 09:22

As LF can give false negatives and DD has symptoms I would definitely book a test and isolate until you get the results.

Frazzled2207 · 20/03/2021 09:23

No you need to get him a pcr test.
LFTs can obviously pick up symptomatic cases however the government has said we should only use them twice weekly to try and pick up asymptomatic cases. There have been several cases of people testing negative on LFTs, then positive on PCR which is far more reliable.

redcandlelight · 20/03/2021 09:23

no, you need to get a pcr test with those symptoms.

the lateral flow tests are in addition not instead of pcr tests.

Frazzled2207 · 20/03/2021 09:23

If you get one this morning you will get a result tonight or tomorrow morning they are currently super quick

Blondie107 · 20/03/2021 09:24

If the child has symptoms you will all need to arrange PCR tests (rather than lateral flow) which can be done at drive-in centres or you can order at home kits in the post. Your household will need to precautionary isolate until the PCR results come back and then continue isolating if any of you are positive

Todaytomorrowyesterday · 20/03/2021 09:24

No don’t carry on as normal book a PCR test.
Our school have said if you have symptoms regardless of the LFT you need to go for the PCR test.

LFT are trying to catch asymptomatic cases.

dementedpixie · 20/03/2021 09:24

No, they give a high rate of false negatives.
She needs a pcr test

loopyapp · 20/03/2021 09:34

Thanks everyone booking it now..

Don't worry, there's lots of other bugs around and they are all sharing them.

My DS(6) missed school yesterday as he woke up with similar symptoms. We went for a drive through PCR test at 11am and got a negative result by text at 6am this morning.

I’ve got a 3 year with a awful cough at the mo. Shes had it a couple weeks now! Two tests back negative but I feel like I want to put a big sticker on her jumper saying ‘it’s not covid’ everytime we go out in public 🙈😂 Baby sis also has a cough & also negative.. so it is clearly just a typical winter virus!

Hope you DC is OK!

Everythingiswonderful · 22/03/2021 21:37

@loopyapp did you get the result in time for birthday celebrations? 🤞it was negative.

loopyapp · 22/03/2021 22:29
