Vaccination slots

Apologies if this has been asked previously

Does anyone know how often and when vaccination slots are updated / released ?

I'm trying to book my dads second jab for him ( we couldn't book the second jab at the same time when he had his) and currently our only option coming up is well over 20 miles away and we know there are lots more local places as he had his first 5 mins from home.

I wondered if it was worth waiting for anymore to be released before booking or to just go with what we can get at the moment?

There's no specific time or date that slots are uploaded, but I felt that from what was announced yesterday no more slots will be made available in the short term due to the upcoming shortage of vaccine.

Assuming he can get to the place 20 miles away, I think he should take what's on offer as I wonder if availability will only get worse.

Is it because of which vaccine he needs? I presume people will need to go where the correct vaccine is?

I'm not sure. This seems a really obscure place a small tiny pharmacy in a town 20 miles away when we have two vaccination centres much nearer ( he was originally done at one of those )

It sounds like this might be our best option thou so I shall book .

Weirdly my mum also has her second coming up but it was booked for her and that's the same jab as my dad (Oxford ) but hers is a pharmacy 10 miles in the other direction. All very random .

If your dad had the same vaccine, it may be worth him going with your mum and they may do his as well. Whilst I was waiting in a pharmacy for mine last week, someone came in on the off chance of having it there and then and they said no problem, they would do it.

Where did your dad have his first one and how was that booked?
My parents were rung up to book their second ones with about 10 days before the 12 weeks ( they originally had 3 week dates for number 2 but they were cancelled).

He got the notification text and letter and I booked it for him early jan. At the time there was no option to book the second dose.

I've booked the one 20 miles away so at least he is booked

Mums is actually long after dads but by the time I booked hers you could book both doses at the same time 😊
