My completely uneventful AZ jab

Had this last week. Didn't feel a thing (tiniest needle ever) and apart from a slightly sore arm for a couple of days nothing. I'm not exactly the type to eat just veges and not drink but then I never get the flu either. A complete non event for anyone that wants to hear that precisely nothing happened. Can't wait to not even notice the 2nd one too!

54 and had mine yesterday. No side effects at all. My twin also had hers yesterday but in a different part of the UK, was sick, fainted and had chills and aches today. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m 52, have T2D and had mine earlier this week. Had a headache about 24 hours later and a slightly sore arm. I’m amazed that I never contracted Covid given the prevalence of it in my workplace. I have had flu once in the past, and had Swine Flu. Usually get a bad cold annually which I put down to my working environment.

TomBarbara · 18/03/2021 20:31

I'm 50

darefullyciverse · 18/03/2021 20:31

I'm 40 and had mine on Tuesday. Tuesday night/Weds I was the sickest I've felt in at least a decade if not ever, temp, vomiting etc. (I'm not often I'll, never had flu etc.) Wasn't expecting it tbh, most people I know felt slightly under the weather if anything. Was consoling myself with the fact that at least it means I must be getting some good immunity but apparently it's not linked at all - pah! Right as rain today though, just like someone flicked a switch. Actually quite odd, as almost seems like yesterday was in my imagination.

starfish4 · 18/03/2021 20:33

My two friends had no side effects whatsoever. I did feel a bit sick in the afternoon, but knew exactly what I fancied for tea and eat a massive plateful. I had the flu jab a month before and it was that one that left my arm feeling uncomfortable.

TomBarbara · 18/03/2021 20:40

This is quite a good article about side effects affecting people differently and what it means. It says we all get the same protection regardless of side effects

I had mine this week. Didn’t feel a thing. AZ, bit hot and restless night. Fine the next day. Not sure I’d have noticed if I wasn’t looking for it.

A retired teacher from my sons school was ushering. The very elegant older woman who jabbed me had just started, and I was the first one she’d done, so she checked with a colleague if she’d filled the syringe enough. I must have raised my eyebrows slightly, to which she said, ‘don’t worry, I’m a heart surgeon, darling’ and gave me a wink. I think I developed a bit of a crush as my side effect. Isn’t it amazing everyone pulling together?

reallyisthisallthereis · 18/03/2021 20:42

DH and I had our yesterday. Both feeling pretty fluey today. Dh starting feeling rubbish last night and was shivering for a couple of hours. I felt ok ish today but feeling much worse tonight. Hoping we will be ok by tomorrow.
Both in our 50's.and as far as aware we've not had Covid

TomBarbara · 18/03/2021 20:54

I had the pneumonia jab last year. My arm was painful with that for a couple of days

Hextopus · 18/03/2021 21:09

DH early 50s had his AZ vaccine yesterday. Said he didn't feel a thing and has been completely fine today. He's been driving and lugging furniture all day (which is a normal day for him) and said he felt a bit more tired than normal. He's also been very hungry. So basically completely uneventful so far.

GrannieD · 18/03/2021 21:36

Due my second jab at 8.30 tomorrow morning, fingers crossed its uneventful as finishing work for a week. I'm 54

Lougle · 18/03/2021 21:49

I am 41, had my first jab yesterday lunchtime. Shivery but no temperature last night. Woke in the early hours with a banging migraine (I have chronic migraines), with a hugely stiff neck. I couldn't bring myself to sit up and take my migraine meds, despite them being next to me on the beside table, until 6 am. By 9 am (after dropping children at school and returning) I was a bit wobbly on my feet. I went to bed and slept it off, and felt a bit better this afternoon. My injection site has started to hurt a bit this evening, but I'm much better than I was.

FVFrog · 18/03/2021 21:58

I’m 51 had AZ jab at 5pm this evening, slightly sore arm but so far so good, feel very tired so have taken to my bed early to Mumsnet! I am about to take some preemptive paracetamol go to sleep. I’m scheduled to teach a zoom Pilates class at 930 in the morning, it’s my most able intermediate group and they’ve all been with me for years, I’ve warned them I maybe teaching from underneath my quilt! Hoping to wake up feeling ok

I volunteer in a vaccination centre. Yesterday was our first day this week. Almost 10% of people did not turn up for their Pfizer vaccine - 85 doses left which needed to be used.We rang round GPs and local care homes and after 2 additional hours of work by everyone all but 7 vaccines were taken up by other people.
This is the effect of the over-reactions of EU countries, the Daily Mail etc. People are now even more worried and untrusting of vaccines. We have AstraZeneca on at the weekend and are expecting many more no shows.
Yet there are few serious reactions as the responses here show.

Lockdown2021 · 18/03/2021 22:34

53 had mine on Monday afternoon. Felt fine until midnight and then the nausea started, almost fainted on the way to the loo. Shivery/shaking, headache. Lasted no more than 24 hours

chipsandgin · 18/03/2021 22:36

49 here & a little envious now that instead of next week it’ll be who knows when until I get it! Just hoping that having two kids in school doesn’t mean I fall at the last hurdle & end up getting the virus before I get the vaccine...fingers crossed.

Iwasonceabrownie · 18/03/2021 22:38

Really hot swollen red arm. The redness and swelling lasted nearly 3 weeks!! I've never had a reaction from any other type of injection. Can't wait for the second one Confused. I'm in my 70s.

SusannahSophia · 18/03/2021 22:39

55 with Pfizer and nothing but an achy and sore arm for a day or so.

blueshoes · 18/03/2021 22:48
  1. Absolutely fine until I got into bed and arm started hurting and cold, shivery and aching and could not sleep. Next morning better and fine with a Lemsip or two.

I have already previously been infected with the virus in April last year (laid up for 4 days) and had antibodies for months later. This felt like a mild version of the coronavirus.

feckwit · 18/03/2021 22:59

46, had mine two weeks ago (Pfizer). No longer have flu jab as it makes me very unwell. I was fine day 1. Day 2 felt like I had a really bad hangover. Went back to be anc slept. Day 3 similar. Felt off for about a week in total. Still getting odd bouts of nausea. No pain in injection site, couldn’t even see where I had it and no achy or dead arm.
DH 60 had AZ last Friday. By midnight was shivering uncontrollably. Bad headache and no energy, lasted 2 days. Still fatigued now. Neither of us normally get ill, he’s never had as sick day from work apart from one with an injury so not illness. Today his arm has started bruising.

Bananaman123 · 18/03/2021 23:07

Me too. I was expecting headaches and to be in bed the next day as my family members suffered this and not knowing how i would feel as i already have an autoimmune disease. Neither up nor down with it. Friend at work had hers yesterday and been off sick since

SophieB100 · 19/03/2021 09:48

Had my first one yesterday at noon. Am 59.
Felt fine until about midnight, when I starting alternating chills and sweats - very restless night with no sleep. Kept thinking I might be sick, but haven't been so far.
Feel under the weather today, with a hangover type headache, that hurts more when I move.
Called in sick and having a duvet day.
AZ vaccine - centre very quiet and I was in and out in minutes, I wonder if they had some 'no shows' - lots of staff sitting around.

Mooserp · 19/03/2021 10:11

I'm 51. I had a night of feeling bad with chills, fever and aches. As a pp said, painful feet when walking (only to the toilet). Then the worst headache I've ever had. No appetite. Nearly 48 hours since the jab I am now just very tired and weak.

My parents in their 80s were both unwell after theirs too.

I was volunteering at a clinic and it was busy. There were quite a few couples, but I wouldn't recommend that. If you have someone who can look after you if you are unwell afterwards I think it's better not to risk it.

80sMum · 19/03/2021 10:19

I had my AZ jab 3 days ago. I barely felt it: it was just the tiniest of teeny tiny scratches. To be honest, if I hadn't known that I was about to be vaccinated, I wouldn't even have noticed it happening! I have had absolutely no after effects at all.

Contrast this to the flu jab I had last October: not only was it quite a painful injection, but the injection site bled afterwards and there was aching, bruising, tenderness and a feeling of heaviness in my arm for a few days following.
