A large group of adults with children doing a big Hokey Cokey in the park at the weekend.

Why do people think because the kids are back at school all bets are off? The trade off of the kids going back is we have to do hold off with mixing for a while.

I don't have Twitter but are they breaking the rules by being outside in the park? Is it clear it's an organised group?

kittensarecute · 15/03/2021 16:47

So we can't even do the Hokey Cokey now - ridiculous. The world's gone mad.

HermioneWeasley · 15/03/2021 16:47

I can’t believe people agree that people doing the Hokey Cokey is a police matter FFS. It’s ridiculous. Half of adults have been vaccinated, all the most vulnerable, these were all consenting adults, who gives a fuck?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/03/2021 16:48

It's outdoors. Transmission outdoors is so low. We learned this from the packed beaches and BLM protests last year, no spike in cases then. Nothing to see here.

User133847 · 15/03/2021 16:58

If a vigil isn't allowed why would the Hokey Cokey be? It breaches social distancing and the guidance over numbers gathering.

Why? Just why? I’m cringing for them as the Hokey Cokey is such a knobby thing to do anywhere unless you’re under the age of 10 and at a kids party.

notrub · 15/03/2021 17:03

Because people are dicks.

Yeah same here. Cringe
Obakarama · 15/03/2021 17:14

Totally cringe. And just dumb right now.

PrincessNutNuts · 15/03/2021 17:18

Where's the screenshot of policemen wrestling women to the ground "for their own safety" Hmm

If you can't have a vigil you can't have a Hokey Cokey.

RhubarbCustardy · 15/03/2021 17:27

Ffs. Be interesting to see how many get covid because of it.

RhubarbCustardy · 15/03/2021 17:28

Outside transmission is vanishingly rare, so maybe the answer isn’t to vilify the Hokey Cokey because the vigil wasn’t allowed, but paradigm shift into that the vigil SHOULD have been allowed and thus this is also fine.

That's entirely not the point.

People always push the rules. If you allow outdoor events because the risk is thought to be low, then people start thinking, if I'm allowed to do x, then I'm going to do y because IMO, y is just as low risk....

Also, people meet up outdoors and think - I'll just use your bathroom..... It's like football matches - the problem isn't the crowd in the stadium - it's the crowded public transport getting all the fans there!

Trees123456789 · 15/03/2021 18:08

With outdoor transmission having been shown to be so rare (beach goers in the summer and BLM protester didn't increase cases), why is it that people showing a bit of joy upsets others so much?

The risk is miniscule yet some people seem to be so angry and disproportionately terrified.

That bit of fun and togetherness may have been just what those people needed in these times.

The hysteria and insanity of 20/21 summed up in a sentence.

Have you lost your mind?

Yeh, let's fight for the right to Hokey Cokey. Hmm

Words fail me.

I would bet my months wages that the answer is zero.
Layladylay234 · 15/03/2021 20:37

This has got to be the most ridiculous reads on MN since the whole "HAVE YOU SEEN THE PEOPLE DOING THE CONGO AT THEIR VE DAY CELEBRATIONS. I love these, they give you an amazing insight into people's lives!

PrincessNutNuts · 15/03/2021 21:43

Wasn't the Met Police's whole rationale for breaking up the Sarah Everard Vigil covid-related public safety?

TempsPerdu · 15/03/2021 22:10

What Trees said. With our MPs imminently likely to vote to curtail our right to peaceful protest and impose 10 year prison sentences for damaging statues, I really can’t get worked up about some silly dancing in a park.

RhubarbCustardy · 15/03/2021 22:38

"Notrub" My remark was tongue-in-cheek. Totally agree with you. I don't think people should be doing this at all. It's totally shit and undoing all the sticking to the rules that loads of people have been doing.
