Hi there just a quick query really. My other half is 50 and hasn't been contacted for a covid jab yet. However one of my friends who is 40 has had an invite as has another friend who is only in her thirties
Is this because of GP surgeries sorting it?

I thought they said you can now come forward if you haven't been called?

Frazzled2207 · 12/03/2021 16:24

some gp hubs are way ahead especially if they don't have many older people on their books. You can book now online if you are above a certain age , it's currently 53 I think but comes down every few days so your DP won't be far off. However that is for the mass vaccination centres only (I think) so not necessarily local.

nordica · 12/03/2021 16:25

They haven't officially moved down to the over 50s group yet.

But anecdotally it does seem to be a bit of a lottery - different areas are moving at a different speed and lots of people seem to be called early for all kinds of reasons. Some of my friends in their 30s and 40s have had their invites already, most are saying they're not sure why but might be something from years back on their medical records or high BMI etc.

CavernousScream · 12/03/2021 16:25

No, it’s because those people have underlying health conditions they haven’t told you about.

Violetlavenders · 12/03/2021 16:29

A lot of local vaccination centres are now inviting 50 year olds and younger.

Violetlavenders · 12/03/2021 16:31

And these are healthy under 50s without underlying health conditions.

simbobs · 12/03/2021 16:34

It has nothing to do with health conditions. The age distribution varies across the country, so where older age groups have already been done younger people are being invited. Just go to the gov. uk vaccination website and input NHS number. It will only let you proceed if you are eligible. Keep trying every couple of days. It really won't be long.

Mindymomo · 12/03/2021 16:40

Keep trying the booking website every couple of days. It will let you book in your area if eligible. Here in Surrey we are still on 56 to 59 and group 6.

Violetlavenders · 12/03/2021 16:54

I had a text inviting me to book at a local vaccination centre, even though the national booking site wouldn't let me book yet.

ExcusesAndAccusations · 12/03/2021 16:58

The National system has got up to age 53 now and seems to be progressing at roughly one year of age every two days so your DH should be able to book next week.

But some local hubs are moving faster than that for a variety of reasons which may be why your younger friends have had their vaccines already.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 12/03/2021 17:10

Health conditions? My 27 year old colleague has been called because he has asthma.

catherineofarrogance80 · 12/03/2021 19:10

No it isn't The one person I've known since I was a kid and the other states she has no idea why she's been called yet

Yes, it sounds very possible they don’t want you to know about underlying health conditions. It’s actually really rude of people to question this. Group 6 is 18-65 year olds with underlying health issues and they’re being vaccinated at the minute. People’s medical histories are not other people’s business and it’s really bad etiquette to ask why they’re getting the vaccine.

nordica · 12/03/2021 20:36

It's people who post on their own FB or even the local FB group asking if their invite text is genuine because they have no underlying conditions are under 40 and don't know why they're getting it... No one's questioning why they're eligible, they're themselves saying they don't know why they are.

catherineofarrogance80 · 12/03/2021 21:38

Cavernous I have no idea why you are insisting they have underlying health conditions or accusing me of questioning them. A friend completely volunteered to me that she had been offered the jab- very bewildered as to why when her mum hasn't been offered hers. Similarly a friend posted on Facebook that she was impressed but somewhat confused she had received an invite

Admin errors probably.
It's a huge undertaking.

The nhs booking page is showing 55 and over when I’ve just tried to book for my 54 year old dh. I’ll keep checking though!
ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 12/03/2021 21:43

I'm 28 and had mine two weeks ago.
The only thing that flagged up for me was GD in pregnancy but doctors told me to have it anyway as I've been flagged up for it.

ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 12/03/2021 21:45

Forgot to add same for my sister who has GD in pregnancy also got offered the vaccine. Seems to be a lot of people who had GD were told to shield/ get the vaccine going from previous threads. Especially when more people were being added to the shielding list.

HSHorror · 12/03/2021 21:49

Our gp is onto 50+ now.
It does seem silly some areas are so far down to 30yo. But then probably there is more spread coming from them...
As the gp are only limited by the number of vaxs given them then those on 30yo should be getting fewer maybe. Surely people from neighbouring las could go there if they wanted.
Even if just 1/3 vax days etc
