9 out of 20 students in my class are apparently exempt from mask wearing

Taught them in a small room with a slit of a window for 1.5 hours

6 of those 9 had chosen not to take a lateral flow test because their Mum said they didn't have to

Schools and colleges are safe though. Apparently

Still haven't said whether you have actual children lucy, or are just here for a rather bizarre fight.

Ulelia, I thikn you are muddling me with someone else. I have never been a school governor and am a big support of teachers. My mother was one and my children's father is one. It is certainly difficult times for everyone.

The interesting question is if the state says teenagers can choose not to wear a mask and must not be denied their education if they do what then happens if a school makes it like a uniform rule - no entry unless wear a mask in class? Hopefully by the summer term this will not be an issue due to the vaccination programme and teachers and schools will be happy for secondary pupils not to wear masks by then.

Xenia, education can be provided remotely. They are not being denied an education. We all hope this is over soon but those of us who work in schools would like to be alive and well at the end of this wave when we may be vaccinated,

That surprises me at my daughters college pretty much all students wearing masks - it’s the opposite no one wants to be the one not wearing one to stand out!
Same with the test they have a high compliance with them - not so sure once they get the home tests. I have a younger child too so we also do the tests and will carry on doing them.

Parker231 · 12/03/2021 07:48

Good approach by the schools making mask wearing the same as wearing school uniform. If it’s a school rule you wear a mask, you wear a mask.

Still haven't answered my question lucy

I think you might find the kids, their parents and grandparents, their wider family, the community and their teachers - and society- all stand a better chance if they are wearing masks.

Not sure what your beef is lucy but your words are not debate. They are just insults.

RootyT00t · 12/03/2021 08:31

@lucye1

Some of these kids stand no chance with some of these weak pathetic teachers . Lets see which is brave enough to try and exclude a child and then take bets to see if they keep their jobs etc . Some families could make a lot of money from this .
Firstly, teachers can't exclude a child. Secondly, no senior management would exclude a child for non mask wearing. Thirdly, if they did, and the child wasn't medically exempt, they would be well within their rights. Fourthly, they would lose any court case.

You are still as bonkers as your original posts but have failed to address any questions.

You've gone from being amusingly ridiculous to frankly offensive - teachers are now weak and pathetic for not wanting to die or wanting their relatives to.

Quick, you haven't mentioned your favourite song in two pages, you better remind us.

The process tends to be a conversation with their guidance teacher and a way forward.

I've seen this end in backing from home in which case child doesn't wear it, or just a discipline issue.

Nor mine.

It somewhat confirms our suspicion that they aren't engaging in good faith.

Xenia · 12/03/2021 09:43

I think there is one issue we can all agree on.
It would be much simpler if the law said either expressly teenagers unless medically exempt and with a doctor's letter must wear masks in the classroom or said the opposite. Instead there is no restriction in law, there is a statement from the Government that no teenager even if not exempt can be obliged to wear a mask and then different internal rules in all kinds of schools.

In other words it is a mess.

Bonkerz · 12/03/2021 09:52

A few of my daughters friends have refused to be tested just because they don't like the look of it.
My daughter15 is autistic and adhd with sensory issues and she has severe anxiety BUT she understands the need for testing and masks and does her absolute best to wear her mask all day. Sometimes she gets anxious and removes it briefly but ensures she is distanced and gets it back on as soon as she can.
One of her friends refuses a test and I've told her she can't come in my home unless she has been tested in future.

How are people going to prove that they are medically exempt? GPs are not going to write letters.

Following on from this thread I asked my year 12 daughter about mask wearing. Every single student in her sixth form wear masks along with all staff. A few kids lower down the school don't but all wear sunflower lanyard. It really isn't too much to ask.
