There's a lack of coverage of "Independent SAGE" within the mainstream media, despite them far more accurately reflecting the views within the scientific and medical communities than the government's spokespeople.

The following is worth a read
www.independentsage.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Commentary-on-Strategy-in-UK-Government-Spring-Roadmap-FOR-FINALISING.pdf

Final para sums it up nicely.
Final paragraph sums it up nicely if people don't want to read the lot.

Interesting, thanks.

I've only read the final paragraph, but note that it doesn't take account of other harms that would arise from a different approach.
Only from a COVID perspective.

I hate independent SAGE. I’m sure there’s some reasonable scientists in there but some are ridiculous. One said the other week we shouldn’t open up schools until we are covid free because of the risk of long covid on kids. The risk being absolutely tiny & no more a risk than other post-viral illnesses kids get all the time. Get a grip. We are never going to be covid free, education is bloody important 🤦🏼‍♀️ there was another one spouting nonesense the other day as well.
Indie SAGE only ever consider covid, they ever think about anything else that the govmt & regular SAGE have too. The economy, mental health, children’s futures & wellbeing, people’s livelihood & jobs. This all has to be balanced up against the risk of covid. Deaths are inevitable, risk is inevitable. Life has to go on once we have the population vaccinated & hospitals operating at a safe & reasonable level.

This this this

I hate it when MNers scream that we are ignoring “the science” meaning we are not doing things purely from the perspective of covid.

There are other risks and harms out there apart from covid.

I hate it when MNers scream about things only being taken from a Covid perspective while failing to point out that a lot of those other things would likely get worse the more uncontrolled the spread of Covid is. The economy, unemployment and other healthcare outcomes for a start.
