How likely is it covid if only symptom is a temperature?

I woke up with a temperature this morning which is under control with paracetamol and have been fine since.

I ve ordered a test just incase but as I m asthmatic but not bad enough to get the vaccine I m really hoping it's just paranoia especially as I ve got a 4 month old DS

Given that you can have it without any symptoms, I suppose it’s possible. However, it could be any number of things.

If it reassures you, I had a very similar experience last year. At about 9pm on a Saturday night I developed a high temperature, no other symptoms. Took some paracetamol and it got it under control and I was fine the next morning. Went for a test anyway because it was one of the three symptoms and came back negative. Still no idea what it was - but wasn’t covid.

@Acesulfame I think I just feel more nervous as the last temperature I had was post birth sepsis because the hcps didn't give us antibiotics after my waters had been broken for too long so I need to remind myself it might not be something serious.

Thank you for your reassurance :)

Yes it could be many other things, but it's important to rule out covid at the outset. So you've done the right thing in ordering the test.

I hope it settles soon, but if it does not, do ring GP (and being to tell them you've had a negative test will help)

@RoseAndRose the paracetamol is working at the moment, so hopefully I ll be okay.
My son's been everywhere I have with me and he seems well, I think I ve got extra nerves being ill since becoming a mum and having a bad experience in hospital when he was born.

Unfortunately it’s one of those symptoms that could indicate something or nothing, ordering a test was absolutely the right thing to do.

Rest as much as you can with with a 4mo (!) and try not to think the worst unless you’re given a reason to reassess.

I hope you get a negative and congratulations on your baby Flowers

Could be Covid. My DP's only symptoms were a temperature and feeling very tired. He was over it in 3 days. You may get a negative test if you have no respiratory symptoms, but that doesn't mean you haven't got it.

Mindymomo · 05/03/2021 15:56

Hopefully when you get tested, it comes back negative, but remember you all need to isolate until you get the results.

@Cornettoninja I feel quite well now, it was just a rough couple of hours this morning.
He's a great sleeper for a 4 month old, we re very lucky.
@CrunchyCarrot I feel over it now to be honest, I normally get respiratory symptoms when I m ill being asthmatic but had none at all.
@Mindymomo we ve got plenty of supplies apart from the fact we might run out of baby milk on Tuesday ( I don't stockpile it as I think it's wrong to do it to other parents) so if no result by Monday I ll have to get some delivered somehow but we ve no need to leave the house apart from to post my test back when it arrives.
