Vaccine "ramp up" from 15th March

According to an e mail from my volunteer app, there will be more supplies so more vaccines available and more volunteers needed from 15th March. Sounds like good news although a little way off yet. They describe it as a major ramp up and say more vaccine centres will be opening too over the next few weeks.

Good. Our household was diagnosed with Covid this week and it’s bloody horrible. My normally strapping DH has been bedbound with it for a week. The more people who are vaccinated who don’t have to go through this, the better.

Plus I want my life back. Don’t we all?!

I cannot wait to get vaccinated.

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 04/03/2021 17:46

Fingers crossed then!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 04/03/2021 17:49

Yes the vaccine minister said we should end up doing double the amount of jabs a day we previously did. Supposed to be like that for 10 to 11 weeks.

Reckon we will have all the adult population that want and can have it done by the end of that. Most the second doses too.

InterfectoremVulpes · 04/03/2021 17:56

I got the same email and volunteer shifts have started appearing now 🥳

bunanarama · 04/03/2021 18:08

Doesnt this tie in with the second doses coming round? So even if capacity doubles numbers getting first dose would remain the same?

Yes I think that's the plan. Which as we are currently ahead of schedule is very good in deedSmile

That’s good, a lot of our local vaccination hubs are only doing 3 days each week, so I’ve had to book my 64 year old brother his some distance away and he cannot get the 2nd vaccination done at the same place. If they want all groups 1 - 9 done by 15 April, along with required second doses, which our area are doing from 8 Match, vaccine supply will have to increase, fingers crossed.

How did you register to volunteer to help at the vaccination centres? Do you know if they need more if it is ramping up?

InterfectoremVulpes · 04/03/2021 20:33

They're not recruiting at the moment but you can register here and be notified when they need more people: nhsvolunteerresponders.org.uk/i-want-to-volunteer/volunteer-roles/steward-volunteer

deliciouschilli · 04/03/2021 20:36

We have a massive new vaccination center opening near us (midlands) in the next couple of weeks.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 04/03/2021 20:54

We need the increase in capacity to avoid too much of a drop in rate of first vaccinations as all the second ones fall due

Eccle80 · 04/03/2021 21:05

@InterfectoremVulpes thank you

Kitkat151 · 04/03/2021 21:19

Any ramp up from the 15th of March is due to 2nd doses which start on that date

Kitkat151 · 04/03/2021 21:20

Pressed too soon.....our hub are all geared up to start second doses that day.....as I imagine are all the rest

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 04/03/2021 21:22

I am on the royal volunteer/Good Sam app (which is where the e mail came from and linked above) but have never seen a shift available there. I found out who was organising the volunteering at my local GP hub from the local press and e mailed them and I have had much more communication from them. All the shifts that I was signed up for have been cancelled so far sadly but I am hoping to actually get in and help them in March. Lots of people want to help, which is great news.

I think the Moderns vaccine is arriving by the end of this month. That made me wonder if people getting their first jab will get that so that the Pfizer and AZ vaccines can go to the second jab people.

Puddymuddle · 04/03/2021 22:07

I had an email saying that there should be more shifts from the 15th and also that as volunteers we are now eligible to have the vaccine!

Flaxmeadow · 04/03/2021 22:08

I'm grateful for having had the jab but I come from an area where we are really ahead with the numbers vaccinated and was a little concerned how it's being carried out at the place I had mine. Not much questioning, no swab used to clean arm before jab. No leaflet or anything given after. Told to leave immediately (back door) after jab. Is this normal?
