Coronavirus or just tummy bug?

I would like to start by saying I had a test first thing this morning and we are isolating.

Yesterday I started with abdominal pain, bloating and in the afternoon diarrhoea. This was very much like an exacerbation of my IBS and I wasn't worried. I went to bed early as I developed a headache.
Temperature shot up to 38c overnight and apparently I was a bit gaga.
Still had the trots, abdominal pain etc.
woke up this morning and got a test done locally.
I am back in bed and I am feeling a bit better...tummy still rumbling and I have had a couple of running to the loo episodes but my temp is back to normal and my headache has improved.

DH has started with the same symptoms since we got back from the test centre ( we didn't get him tested) which had been exciting as he has a new colostomy ! He seems to be 24 hrs behind me in illness. He also has had Covid recently (mid January).

The real pain is my vaccine is due tomorrow!

Even if I am covid negative I need to keep away as it will be less than 48 hrs from last episode of the trots.

I think this is just a tummy bug...anyone else?

I have cancelled my vaccination appointment for tomorrow...the receptionist thanked me as most just don't turn up.

DM has been tested this am too.
Vomiting and dizzyness and sweaty but shivery, didn’t have thermometer to check.
My work suggest we test to be safe so now I’m in isolation to as we live together!

Any idea how long tests are taking to come back?

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 03/03/2021 14:40

I’m also convinced she has a gastric bug.

Poor mum! Whatever it is it's not nice. It's been relatively short lived temperature wise. So I hope she starts feeling better soon. I now feel like I have been kicked in the stomach. I hope we get results by Friday - DH has appointments with his surgeon next week...

As your dh has only recently had cv I'm going to guess gastric bug but you were wise to test.

InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 03/03/2021 19:02

Temperature raised again. No further toilet visits but the growling is quite pronounced!
Still in bed... DH has now decided he needs to take to the bed too. He is pissed off because we can't get wheeler dealers on the telly....🤨

Fingers crossed for negative result....

Same symptoms tested negative xxx

Food poisoning/tummy bugs will mimic some covid symptoms especially fevers. Your better getting both tested to be sure. My DDs started with what we thought was tummy bugs, both came back negative but one just dragged on a few days longer so did a 2nd test 4 days later and was positive. She had no other symptoms other them upset tummy and fever.

InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 04/03/2021 11:15

Negative for Covid

Temp down but still got diarrhoea/crippling pain.
Glad it's a tummy bug ( never thought I would say that)

No idea what where it's come from though - we are staying home after DHs major abdominal surgery on New Year's Eve

Glad that your test came back negative - fingers crossed with the bug clearing up soon.

There has been research into diarrhea and covid, it's not an uncommon symptom.
I called 111 when I had it quite early on last year when tests were more rationed, because I was aware of the research, even though it wasn't officially recognised as a symptom. Was advised to get a test straight away.

I have heard diarrhoea was a Covid symptom in some folk hence taking the test. Covid symptoms seem to encompass every illness symptom though, even 'feeling a bit under the weather'..... which can be a real pita. I dosed myself up last night with buscopan, Imodium and codeine just to get a nights sleep. I got seven hours before the deluge.....

On a brighter note....losing weight!
