Accessing lateral flow tests

I am a peripatetic music teacher, and the schools I work in are happy for me to return next week, subject to twice weekly lateral flow tests, plus wearing a mask in school. Does anyone know how I can access these? The school tests are for their staff, obviously I am not am employee, so they say I need to source these myself, but I'm not sure how!

@shufflestep here’s the link which explains how you access them. You can either order online or go to your nearest collection point www.gov.uk/guidance/rapid-lateral-flow-testing-for-households-and-bubbles-of-school-pupils-and-staff?priority-taxon=774cee22-d896-44c1-a611-e3109cce8eae&fbclid=IwAR16juGDvMkF0JFdKxVqDJQpMVvclvlrTQ2DMzcuAHAmi3tUWnYq8sA0YgA

Your local authority web page should have info on where to go to get a lateral flow test if you are someone who can't work from home. I've just looked ours up for DS as he's going back to Uni at the weekend so will be moving households and Uni have advised a test before returning.

I googled 'lateral flow test near me' then clicked on the .Gov page, put our postcode in and that took me to a link to the page on our LA'S website.

As you're not a household or bubble member of a student those links don't apply. But isn't your local authority running a LFT centre for key workers/those WOH?

shufflestep · 03/03/2021 11:26

Thanks everyone! Having looked up the links, it turns out I'm eligible because my youngest is still year 13, so I have ordered some. I don't know what will happen to others not in that position, but there we go. Another issue of being self-employed....

Our local authority have slots to book at pharmacies.

@JanFebAnyMonth if you are a parent of a student or work in a school you can order/collect tests.

My husband's school is providing them for all peri staff.

Where I live anyone can book for one at the local leisure centre twice a week.

Does anyone know the situation for FE students? Everything there just mentions schools but I thought FE was lumped in with schools?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 03/03/2021 12:25

I went to collect some yesterday from a test centre. Literally no checks made on my need for them. They shouted through the window "how many children have you got?" I said I had one, but wanted some for my partner too. I opened the back window of my car 2 inches, they posted 4 boxes through.

Easy.

My son is due back in college on Monday. I havn't heard what is happening but his college piloted lateral flow testing last term in college.

Comefromaway · 03/03/2021 12:29

IN fact I've just seen in a letter to parents that his college have already been testing the vulnerable/SEN students who have been attending during lockdown so it's just going to be an extension of the existing programme.
