Please no delays to the roadmap because of the Brazilian variant

They do these regularly. Why do people keep panicking every time it’s announced? Confused

GirlCrush · 01/03/2021 14:32

Do they?

PurpleDaisies · 01/03/2021 14:33

@GirlCrush

Do they?
Do they do press conferences regularly? Er, yes. For about a year now.
MoirasRoses · 01/03/2021 14:33

Yes! They happen every single Monday 😫People seem to panic every week but it’s never anything exciting. It’ll just be more info on what’s happening as usual. Probably tell off the U.K. for enjoying the sunshine over the weekend.. bit about the new variant etc

They aren’t going to delay the roadmap right now because of 6 cases.

nordica · 01/03/2021 14:41

More likely patting themselves on the back for reaching the 20 million vaccinations administered milestone...

There's been a press conference every Monday for weeks now and usually on Thursdays, too.

lurker101 · 01/03/2021 14:44

I imagine it’s to announce that things are progressing as expected a week before many schools open to more children, to try to calm fears/share their message. Hopefully they will announce extension of the online vaccine booking to a further group too

idontlikealdi · 01/03/2021 14:44

Vaccine vaccine vaccine

Oh fuck the Brazilian variant is on the loose and we didn't even get a fir. Properly filled in

MoirasRoses · 01/03/2021 14:50

How can you get a covid test & not fill in your details?! Does it let you continue without giving an email address, phone number or address?!

PurpleDaisies · 01/03/2021 14:51

It will be a home test that wasn’t registered properly. The test kit won’t have been linked with the personal data.
rainbowunicorn · 01/03/2021 14:54

Oh look, the Monday panic there's a press conference thread. People will spend the next 3 hours making up daft what ifs and being doom and gloom. The press conference will come on, half the people panicking won't even watch it. It will say nothing of any substance as usual and then we can do it all again next week.

Againstmachine · 01/03/2021 15:01

Think there was 3 last week Boris on Monday, and Hancock on Friday, can't remember who on Wednesday.

No need to panic.

I registered, but I didnt see the thing to add the number. So I sent one off without it being registered Blush
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 01/03/2021 15:19

It’s the 7 or 8 pm gigs that are the ones for panic. These are just standard ones.

Yes if it is at 8pm then we are really in trouble
UmteenthUser · 01/03/2021 15:27

Hancock tonight, hopefully with JVT, so surely will be vaccines and variants

RosieLemonade · 01/03/2021 15:28

Bit suspect there is all this talk about tbe Brazilian strain after people have been slightly more relaxed this weekend.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/03/2021 15:35

Yep. Pushing it into the forefront to keep people compliant.
peak2021 · 01/03/2021 15:49

@UmteenthUser I feel sympathy for Jonathan Van Tam, indeed for Chris Whitty too. I would not want to have to meet and work with Matt Hancock, who is woefully out of his depth, or deal with Boris Johnson, whose actions and inactions have led to more deaths than Fred West or Harold Shipman carried out.

Not really a fair comparison 😂

Say what now?

Ludicrous!

LockdownIsDragging · 01/03/2021 16:03

Hopefully they will remind people we are currently under a ‘stay at home’ lockdown. Lost count of the number of people on Facebook posting pictures of their NT visits and trips out to the countryside most travelling over 10 miles. I know it’s not the way covid transmits but people seem to have forgotten the current guidelines. If they are happy to post about these outing on Facebook what other rules are they flouting behind closed doors?

Lemons1571 · 01/03/2021 16:06

Oh not JVT “schools are safe, teachers are not any more at risk than anyone else, just look at the statistics from between March - December 2020 when schools were fully op..... oh”

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/03/2021 16:38

More data on that was released today, based in age marginally lower % of teachers and other staff than the wider community % have had covid!

Sometimes when an expert speaks you just have to accept they know what they are be talking about.

lurker101 · 01/03/2021 16:41

@Lemons1571 my understanding is they compared rates in working age population, so that would have included comparing rates amongst teachers to those working out of home all year such as manufacturing workers and those working at home all year (many office workers) and those on furlough, so I think this would reduce the impact of school closures on the data.

Good luck 😂
