Please no delays to the roadmap because of the Brazilian variant

OP posts:

Yes! They compared by age and within the same LA.

The wider community included people wfh etc.

So the fact that the % were similar does show that teachers are not at higher risk - they could even make a case for them being at lower risk levels, though that may not be a statistically significant difference.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/03/2021 17:09

Truly I upped the ante before remembering this is a podium post, not a general grump 😬

peak2021 · 01/03/2021 17:10

Late again, for no apparent reason.

peak2021 · 01/03/2021 17:11

No apology for lateness.

It'll be a warning to the public about gatherings before the restrictions are lifted.
Lemons1571 · 01/03/2021 17:23

Surely they need to take the rate between Sept - Dec, the time period that schools were full. And compare that to the rates for orher frontline workers. Because they are using these rates as proof that teachers are safe to go back to full schools next week.

Incorporating the time period march to august when schools were empty is naturally going to make it look as though teachers are not catching the virus in large numbers.

I believe the rate of infection sept-dec was 333% that of the community.

Quite.

All good news, I'm sure. Hmm

I believe they did, the data was collected in December.
CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/03/2021 17:43

Yes! They did. I'll say it again, scientists know how to science!

You are not allowed to say this:

More data on that was released today, based in age marginally lower % of teachers and other staff than the wider community % have had covid!
Sometimes when an expert speaks you just have to accept they know what they are be talking about. "

Agree with other poster - watch out.....

Oh you live for danger don't you 🙈

Good luck 😂

Do you have links for that number?

That the rates are compar d to a population that includes those with the lowest infection rates makes the point you are reaching for.

Comparing teachers to the highest cohort would be even more decisive.

MarshaBradyo · 01/03/2021 17:45

Have they mentioned road map wrt new variant?

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 01/03/2021 17:45

"scientists know how to science!"

Love itGrin

billysboy · 01/03/2021 17:48

dont assume taking a foreign holiday this year

GabsAlot · 01/03/2021 17:53

so whats the verdict

PicsInRed · 01/03/2021 17:59

@billysboy

Was that what they said?

My new lockdown hobby might be boat building.

Half joking. 🤔

ellyeth · 01/03/2021 18:01

Stop watching any of them. They change from day to day anyway.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/03/2021 18:02

I'm stealing that...

JVT - at risk of sounding like a parrot

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/03/2021 18:06

@MarshaBradyo

Have they mentioned road map wrt new variant?
Only in that it won't effect it... 6 people, 5 of whom followed the self isolation rules, why wouldn't the 6th?

It is nowhere near being a common variant but genome sequencing continues ( and will increase) Test (not Track) and Trace is working, human error notwithstanding 😊

MarshaBradyo · 01/03/2021 18:07

Thanks Curious that’s great to hear

I did catch real world data on vaccines which is brilliant

I like JVT saying our approach is vindicated

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/03/2021 18:08

@GabsAlot

so whats the verdict
Mostly that our politicians and scientists are pretty good at diplomacy, even when our journalists push for a headline response... JVT as usual was excellent!
VinterKvinna · 01/03/2021 18:10

Why can't people put the date in the title???

Lemons1571 · 01/03/2021 18:46

I can’t link from my phone. If you put “teacher 333% covid” into google the results come up. I believe the tes got the statistic from the DfE publication back in December.

GabsAlot · 01/03/2021 19:00

thanks curious i like him too -good man
