Come fly with me

I can't work out when flights will resume under the four stage plan out of lockdown. Provided all goes to plan (!) when are we expecting to be able to fly abroad again? And is there a travel corridor now of places that'll accept us once it's allowed? Google is annoyingly vague 😩

That's because the plan is vague! Deliberately so as no-one is going to make any concrete decisions about that until much later in the year.

The roadmap just says
"The government has launched a new taskforce to review global travel which will report on 12 April."
"

DazedandConcerned · 28/02/2021 20:30

17 May. The new task force will report on 12 April - it will be determined the if we can travel on 17 May and what restrictions we will need to adhere to.

whenwillthemadnessend · 28/02/2021 20:31

No way I'd book this year. Just too many things can go wrong. Sticking to uk.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 28/02/2021 20:32

Surely it depends on the rules of the destination country, as well as the UK?

Plumedenom · 28/02/2021 20:32

The thing is, you read about this Brazilian case that came via Paris and London and the person they can't trace, and you think, maybe it's not a great idea for people to just hop around the world right now. Maybe it's good to be able to keep things a little contained until people are immunised. Don't get me wrong, I live in Europe and can't wait to get back to my family in the UK, but I also see why it's very very problematic.

Lockheart · 28/02/2021 20:32

We have no idea. Going abroad is not only dependent on our govt's restrictions but also those of destination countries (i.e. are they allowing people from the UK and is vaccination a condition of entry).

Just wait and see.

Plumedenom · 28/02/2021 20:37

I can say for sure that here in mainland Europe we are in a very different place at the moment, hope is a tiny dot on the horizon, the vaccination programme has barely begun and I can't see things changing between now and next Christmas. At least where I am, even the infrastructure for the vaccine is lacking, they have completely botched communication around vaccine safety, especially astra zeneca, and we are about to hit a third wave. Schools are closing right left and centre. We can't leave our towns, let alone go to an airport. Hotels have been closed for a very long time and some may never open again at this rate.

whenwillthemadnessend · 28/02/2021 20:48

Where are you Plume?

Muchtoomuchtodo · 28/02/2021 20:50

@Plumedenom I’m sorry to hear that. What’s going in elsewhere isn’t being well reported in the uk.

Where are you?

Frazzled2207 · 28/02/2021 21:00

we'll know more on 12th April.
The thing is once the entire adult population is vaccinated, or rather the vast majority is, which is likely in the summer, it will be enormously harder for the virus to spread, even the awkward strains. This is going to go on for YEARS and we can't cut ourselves off indefinitely (although admittedly that is what Australia and New Zealand seem to be trying to do)

Azuretwist · 28/02/2021 21:33

Sorry to hear that “@Plumedenom.”
Schools here are closed, and for some areas it has been that’s as since December. What with bubbles closing Sept-Dec, I did not have a month with all my children in school.
Since Dec 20th in Wales, people can only exercise from their own home. In England for. 26th ( if I am remembering dates correctly.)

Schools in England have closed for a lot of time between March23rd 2020 to now, and with a poor track and trace system, limited hotel quarantine, few penalties for breaking the rules and the roadmap out meaning for some people they think it is all over, of the vaccines do not work or new variants arrive in the UK, then it is not as rosy as it may first appear.

peak2021 · 28/02/2021 22:19

There is not a decision, and in part it depends on the countries you fly to. I expect given vaccination levels in the UK, flying out will be allowed before some countries will let you in.
