Group 6 but now under BMI 40

Lemons1571 · 28/02/2021 16:09

I think I’m group 6 because my BMI is recorded as 40 on my medical records. So that will presumably be a gp hub vaccination. But I’ve recently lost weight so reckon I’m more like BMI 30-35. Should I try and get moved to group 10 (am late 40’s?) Or should I get done as part of group 6? Will they weigh me and turn me away?

I did tell the gp last year on the phone l, that I thought I was under BMI 40 now. But she couldn’t change the medical record without weighing me in person, but I wasn’t allowed in the surgery to do that as it wasn’t essential. So I’m officially BMI 40 for the foreseeable future no matter what!

Shall I just go anyway and see what happens?

I'd just take it to be honest. It will probably be more hassle to move groups than have it.

CheeseJalapenoBread · 28/02/2021 16:11

I doubt they’ll weigh you. I’d just accept the offer when it’s made and get vaccinated. You’re not depriving anyone and you’re another person ticked off the vaccination list.

enjoyingscience · 28/02/2021 16:12

Just get it. It will make a small difference in the grand scheme of things - everyone’s getting it anyway.

happytoday73 · 28/02/2021 16:13

They won't weigh you... They will just ask you medical questions to ensure its OK to give you the vaccine, give you the vaccine and then check you are OK.....

I'd just take the appointment as soon as comes through...

MRex · 28/02/2021 16:15

Just have it, group 6 won't wind up that far ahead of group 10 because it's through GPs.

PansyIvy · 28/02/2021 16:15

Agreed, they won’t weigh you. Just take it. Smile

MRex · 28/02/2021 16:15

Well done on the weight loss though, keep up the good work!

Lemons1571 · 28/02/2021 16:17

Thank you! All my old clothes still fit, the beauty of elasticated waistbands! So maybe I don’t look too different. I haven’t seen anyone that hasn’t seen me for a while, so no one has been able to notice or not!

Take the vaccine! Flowers

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 28/02/2021 16:33

Agreeing with everyone. Take the vaccine when you're invited to book it. It'll take more of the NHSs time & money to alter the records and put you in a different group most probably! Well done on the weight loss!

Mumof3andlovingit · 28/02/2021 18:11

Take the vaccine!

Kitkat151 · 28/02/2021 18:22

Take the vaccine, then you’re another one ‘done’...no one at the hub will know ( or care) why you are in group 6.... you will be in and out.....much more drama to get yourself moved to another group

Kitkat151 · 28/02/2021 18:23

Ps well done on weight loss!

Cookie9214 · 28/02/2021 18:25

If you want the vaccine I would take it! If you don’t then just don’t accept the offer.

You can work out your bmi online. I have no idea what my last weight was at doctors. It might be slightly higher than now but I’m pretty sure my bmi is not 40 from the last time they weighed me (it’s 35 right now). But I’ve had it anyway as a carer.

I highly doubt they will weigh you. They haven’t got time for that and working out bmi. It’s usually a very speedy trip in and out to get vaccinated!

Either way, your choice.

Evidencebased · 28/02/2021 18:34

They won't weigh you.
They won't ask you what medical condition places you getting a vaccine now.
They don't know if you're a carer , or getting one for work related reasons.
They don't have time for stuff like that.

I'd go now, if the computer says yes- if only because systems are inflexible, and it may be easier all round if you just get your vaccine when the computer tells you to.

ekidmxcl · 28/02/2021 18:36

Just get vaccinated. IMO it’s priority to vaccinate as many people as possible.

lunar1 · 28/02/2021 18:42

Just get the vaccine, you would take up more of their time getting switched around and could end up with someone rushing and you missing being on the list all together

RedcurrantPuff · 28/02/2021 18:56

Just get it done. They will not weigh you. Well done on the weight loss.

furonthecoat · 28/02/2021 19:14

Take it! Everyone done is one person closer to getting out of this mess. Of course they needed the groups and a system for assigning priority on a nation wide scale but the odd individual slipping through the cracks to get theirs a little earlier won't make a difference.

I'm In my mid 20's but CV due to a very well managed medical condition. In fact I didn't know I was CV until the vaccine data came out and I saw my medical condition put me in group 6. I think my medical condition falls into group 6 because it can affect the lung but only does in about 20%of cases but this isn't routinely tested for and it would use more resources to test everyone with this condition for lung problems than just to vaccinate us all and get it done with. I haven't ever shielded or felt anymore vulnerable and when I had covid was fine bar feeling like I had a heavy cold. My parents are 59 and 58 and it feel ludicrous that I am vaccinated before them. If I could give my vaccine to them I would. But me taking the vaccine when I'm invited doesn't affect when they or anyone else is going to get theirs. So don't feel guilty for getting yours once invited. It's more of a hassle for the NHS and vaccine rollout if you don't. You're not 'cheating the system' or 'skipping the queue' and don't let anyone make you feel guilty.

Just be kind to yourself for the rest of the day and day after because the side effects (whilst absolutely fine and non life threatening, they shouldn't put anyone off getting the vaccine) are a little rough and all I wanted to do was go to bed and sleep it off.

queenofthelamas · 28/02/2021 19:24

@Lemons1571 exactly the same as you Lemons. BMI was 40 at the beginning of jan last year. Since then I have got down to 36 but with everything going on never bothered to change it on my records as didn't think it would matter.

Then I was surprised to be called for the jab and called the doctors who explained it was due to my BMI, I explained that I had lost weight and was now under the requirement and they basically told me they don't really care and just to book the jab in which I did.

I've also been told I can't change it unless I make a general healthcare appointment Hmm

HavelockVetinari · 28/02/2021 19:25

Take the vaccine! The administration cost to change your record will be more than the cost of the vaccine.

Also - bloody well done on losing weight, most of us have gained during lockdown Flowers
