Has the lockdown ended?

Has the lockdown ended without me realising? Went for my daily walk today and many groups of up to 10 people having picnics and drinking on the green, must have been 200 people in total. Every bench was in use. Must be the nice weather!

Yep, lots of illegal picnics here too. I must admit it made me smile to see them happily sitting in the sunshine. It looked like mostly individual families, though I've seen groups of teens throughout lockdown (genuinely 6 just went by on bikes as I typed that). It probably shouldn't make me smile as it is against the law and probably does increase our risk of spread and mutations that escape the vaccine, followed by more doom, gloom and lockdowns, but it really was lovely to see people outdoors enjoying themselves.

Completely rammed here in Stratford, London. Were it not for masks, U would think it was a year ago.

Weren't you participating in the 'ramming'?
Delatron · 26/02/2021 17:41

It was lovely to see all the benches full in the park today. DS and I couldn’t find one to sit on! No bother though.

Pleased to see people outside enjoying the sunshine and shock horror, having a sit down and a chat.

Did you see the evidence that there was zero spread from the busy beaches in the summer? Thank goodness common sense is prevailing.

Police are sensible round here too and they don’t bother with people sat on benches.

pinkearedcow · 26/02/2021 17:42

Cases are rising again in some parts of the UK, which is a worry. People might be relaxing their guard a bit.

pinkearedcow · 26/02/2021 17:44

I don't think people gathering outside is a huge concern, though.

Parky04 · 26/02/2021 17:45

@TheMoth

Wtf are people doing sitting out? It's cold!
Pretty warm in SE England!
islockdownoveryet · 26/02/2021 17:46

Sorry op I don’t understand the point of these threads it’s up there with .
Furlough people are lazy
Lockdown not strict enough, we should have a curfew/lock us in
Close schools / open schools
My 37 year old friend has had the vaccine before me.
I could go on it’s tiresome and it’s not a genuine question unless you have no tv / no WiFi which I doubt your on mumsnet and no phone you know perfectly well of the lockdown rules .
At least be honest and your bored and want to discuss that people were out today but so we’re you .

lucywho123 · 26/02/2021 17:49

Why's that OP? Have bars, restaurants, cinemas all re-opened? Shops maybe? Is everyone out in big groups of more than one household?

These threads are so beyond tedious. Stay inside if people being outside in the sunshine for the first time this year bother you so much

User133847 · 26/02/2021 17:49

I had to laugh the other day when the map out of lockdown said on March the whatever 2 people can meet outside. People are already out in groups.

dogsaremypeople · 26/02/2021 17:50

It's finished for me! Vulnerable have been vaccinated, I'm not staying in anymore.

Dannn · 26/02/2021 17:50

@whatohwhattodo

Cant work out if you posted this as a goody post OP just to set off an explosion of comments you can sit back and laugh at or it didn't go quite as you hoped and you are backtracking.....definitely don't buy the explanation!
I think this really highlights how posts on the internet can be misconstrued as I was really just asking a simple question. It really doesn’t matter if you ‘buy’ my explanation.

Interestingly this has just been discussed at the Downing Street briefing. JVT concerned that people are relaxing. Message was very firm that we need to stick to the rules. Seems like there is some evidence that this is happening, if even they are addressing it.

Dannn · 26/02/2021 17:53

For those saying I was out as well, yes of course I was but there is a difference between going out for daily exercise which is permitted and meeting 10 friends in the park for a picnic. I’m not saying I’m better than anyone that has done that and each individual is entitled to make their own choices, but it’s still against the rules.

I noticed through half term last week it was far more relaxed outdoors. People out in groups, different households mixing etc.

I'm not complaining about people doing that, but I thought it was daft to them announce this week that two people could meet outdoors from some date in March, as if they aren't already.

Either go with what the public are already doing it, or enforce the rule.

Yes, perhaps this is what I was trying to say that people have clearly forgotten about the lockdown, based on what I saw today and I was wondering if others had experience the same. My deepest apologies for not phrasing it in the correct manner Blush

Lots of people havent followed the rules at all. People think they wont get it! Probably hasnt affected them. Selfish people

You weren't just 'asking a simple question'. You know very well that lockdown has not ended. You just wanted to feel superior about people enjoying some semi nice weather in an outdoor space where transmission is unlikely to occur.

Make the most of it, because in a few months your opportunities for judging others for normal social interactions will have lessened dramatically.

IcedPurple · 26/02/2021 17:57

People think they wont get it!

Because they almost certainly won't. Certainly not from sitting on a park bench.

WasntItGood · 26/02/2021 17:57

@Dannn you know full well lockdown hasn't ended. The parks/picnics will
Be busy because no where else is open, what else is there for people to do. Most people have now had their vaccine and/or being tested weekly in work.

peak2021 · 26/02/2021 17:57

OP if you are concerned that the current rules are not being followed, you can report this to the police, assuming you have evidence.

Yes if there is one sunny day people tend to forget things, such as last year where on some beaches there was little or no social distancing and placing litter in bins.

User133847 · 26/02/2021 17:58

There's been a theme that whenever the sun comes out people forget/ignore the rules and start gathering in groups, descending on parks and beaches in groups and sunbathing and having picnics etc.

It's not been in the rules, but there's something embedded in people that if the sun is out the rules don't apply.

ginsparkles · 26/02/2021 17:58

I definitely think that it's a worry. JVT was also saying that his being asked all the time if now that I have had the vaccine can I break the rules. It's clearly becoming and issue. There is growth again in some areas. It's likely to be a nice weekend, they were really quite united on they "it's going well, please don't blow it now" message. I don't think they would hammer this that hard if there wasn't some concern it was happening.

It doesn't give people the right to break the law.
