Am hoping someone can shed light on this for me.
So i recieved letter in the post today saying I have been invited to book covid vaccine for myself as records show I am carer for clinically vulnerable person
I get Dla and carers allowance for my 6 year old son who has high functioning autism and Adhd.
What i dont understand is, is autism classed as clinical vulnerable condition or are they refering to my second son (1yr old) who had breathing problems at birth and stayed in Nicu for 2 weeks?
Also if am been invited for the vaccine, why is my clinically vulnerable child not been invited for it too?

am 38 year old female with no pre existing condition.

Thanks in advance.

Children aren't being offered the vaccine.

I do believe they are sending letters to people who receive carers allowance. But the work involved in separating each case based on vulnerability or not is just too vast.
Does it really matter? Take the vaccine GrinGrinGrin

It's to protect your son as far as I understand - if you get ill, you won't be able to care for him. Not because his autism or ADHD make him vulnerable to covid.

It’s to protect your child.
What no one seems to be talking about is the excess deaths of people with learning difficulties/disabilities. It’s even more disgraceful than the care home deaths.
I wish people will check their facts before posting. Adults with learning disabilities are 6 times more likely to die of covid, adults with Down syndrome 10 times more likely.
I’m booked in for mine next Friday.

It will be for the child you get CA for. I received one and my son has ASD but no medical difficulties.

Alwaysready · 26/02/2021 16:18

As ypure in receipt of carers allowance you're eligible. No children are being vaccinated yet.

kittykarate · 26/02/2021 16:20

Also if am been invited for the vaccine, why is my clinically vulnerable child not been invited for it too?

Because none of the vaccines are licensed for use in under 16s yet. So they are jabbing you to protect your boys, as you are then much likely to catch covid, and leave them without help and care, and there is research implying that vaccines are reducing transmission.

huggzy · 26/02/2021 16:25

It's about protecting you because you need to be well to care for your child.

They're going by those receiving carers allowance for their child rather than the individual child's disability/ condition and whether that would make them more susceptible to covid/ complications from covid.

My son also has ADHD and receives DLA- unfortunately I earn a little too much to get carers allowance so I'm not entitled to a vaccine currently.

saffire · 26/02/2021 16:26

Because the vaccine hasn't been tested on children yet. You need it as a carer, to protect you so you can carry on caring for them.

PotteringAlong · 26/02/2021 16:26

Also if am been invited for the vaccine, why is my clinically vulnerable child not been invited for it too?

Because the vaccine isn’t approved for children.

BirthdayKake · 26/02/2021 16:26

I got the letter today too and I'm in the same situation as you. Not having the jab though.

Woolwichgirl · 26/02/2021 19:46

Thanks a lot for all your responses
I think i get the idea now.
So am getting the vaccine to protect me so I can keep caring for my kids as their carer.

I will be booking my appointment tommorow.
Thanks.

You get carers allowance.

It's not always the person themselves may be clinically vulnerable to covid but they are vulnerable if you were to catch it and couldn't care for them.

As others said - you've been offered and so if you want one have it!

Quicker everyone's done the quicker the route out of this!
