And there is a few months to go are you worried about the relaxing of the rules? I’m worried as to how to protect myself..very worried I’ll catch it this time Sad

Paying for it is a crap idea.
All those who can afford it will get to the front of the queue before people who genuinely need it.

TableFlowerss · 25/02/2021 19:02

@BustopherPonsonbyJones

I know I’ll get flamed for this, but I’m future I hope we can pay for the vaccine so those who are anxious (like me!) and believe they work in unsafe conditions (schools!) can be protected earlier. I’d pay a decent amount rather than go through this again and be forced to work when others stay safely at home. Hopefully, there will be some spare capacity.
You shouldn’t get flamed at all!! Your MH is as important as the physical health of the next person.
kowari · 25/02/2021 19:03

I had it last March (positive for antibodies a few months later) and I'm not particularly worried about catching it again. 37 with no health conditions so I'll be waiting a while for the vaccine.

AllMyPrettyOnes · 25/02/2021 19:04

You're alright Jack. Nice. Are you always this selfish?

How is that selfish?

Forced to work? I've heard it all now. If we can't do our jobs from home then we just have to crack on with it. I work in a factory, am last in line for the vaccine and I don't feel I am being "forced" to work, we all have to work to live.

What about those who have to go out to work to pay the bills and are anxious but can't afford to pay for a vaccine? I don't think anyone should be able to jump ahead of another person in the queue just because they are more financially privileged.
HesterShaw1 · 25/02/2021 19:22

I'm not worried at all. Cases are plummeting, and vaccination rates are really good. Treatments and outlooks have improved. And even if I catch it, the chances of me being made very poorly are extremely slim, because I am healthy and under 60. Yes theoretical chance I could be made very ill, but I have looked at the charts and graphs as well as the infection rates for my area, and made a balanced risk assessment. I am not more concerned about this than I am about driving in my car, which I do every day.

We are told we should panic about all sorts of things on a daily basis. I'm not going to.

I can't wait for a more normal life to resume.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 25/02/2021 19:30

I don’t think my workplace should be more dangerous. I don’t see why other people get to stay at home. I don’t see why a 23- year-old speech therapist has been given a vaccine whilst working from home. I don’t see why some people can afford a mansion and I can’t.

If in the future there are spare vaccines (as there are with the flu vaccine), I should be able to choose to spend it on getting one. Some people might choose to have a new car, buy cigarettes or go on holiday. I would choose to pay for a vaccine so I can do my job safely as the government doesn’t care. I reckon they’ll be pleased to take my cash. It’s a win/win for them.

@Waxonwaxoff0
You can spend all that lovely overtime on whatever you like. I don’t mind.

Happymum12345 · 25/02/2021 19:32

I’m worried but only because I don’t get paid if I’m off work. The illness itself sounds horrible too. It’s the unknown.

Lemons1571 · 25/02/2021 19:32

I think bustover means that she would like to pay for the vaccine once supplies and rollout are not limited. In the same way that she can get a fu jab from boots if she’s anxious about flu. Not that she wants to skip any queues.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 25/02/2021 19:35

lemons
That’s what I meant. I pay for a flu jab and I would pay for this.

Dementedswan · 25/02/2021 19:39

I'm worried. Group 6 with heart problems and still not had vaccine yet I'm expected to send dc to school with rates of 189/100,000 and rising in my area.

Sadsiblingatsea · 25/02/2021 19:42

Not worried at all.
I’m more worried about cancer or dying in a road accident - both statistically more likely

namechange63524 · 25/02/2021 19:46

The main thing I'm worried about is all schools opening up for everyone at the same time. It's such a stupid risk that could wait until numbers were lower. Rotas or something for a bit.

user143677433 · 25/02/2021 19:52

Slightly.

I’m late 40s, asthmatic and with a heart condition. Clinically vulnerable, but bumped out of group 6 (and all that stuff about “the vulnerable have been vaccinated” is crap).

My work are assuming I’ll be going on 400 mile train journeys, to client offices, and attending team parties ASAP.

I know the odds are still in my favour if I catch it, but it will be a difficult transition to start taking those risks.

iceicesunsun · 26/02/2021 00:12

Wanting the relaxing of the rules to happen more quickly because the PP doesn't care about getting it him/herself. It's not all about the PP.
Coasterfan · 26/02/2021 01:53

I ve not given it a second thought, I can’t wait to be out and about again with or without the vaccine.

phlebasconsidered · 26/02/2021 06:58

I am. I'm 49, still waiting to hear if my asthma is severe enough to get me into group 6, with two underlying autoimmune conditions. I'm already teaching a bubble of 25 that will 35 again on the 8th. Still no masks, no mitigation except for a window. I'm very anxious indeed.

KatherineJaneway · 26/02/2021 07:07

Not worried at all. Can't wait to get out and about and live again.

WarriorN · 26/02/2021 07:08

Actually I'm starting to get nervous.

Mid 40s sen teacher with moderate asthma but not bad enough to qualify for the vaccine. And our school wasn't classified as medical enough for the vaccine either.

So yes some concerns about a rebound effect over the next few weeks and months.

I'm glad the weather is getting better though, that helps ventilation wise and getting kids outside more. I don't know how much to trust lfts, but glad at least that's something.

Takemebackto98 · 26/02/2021 07:09

This thread should probably be separated into two - one for those under 50 with no known underlying health conditions and one for those who do have underlying health conditions who are at greater risk, or with children at greater risk, but who aren’t entitled to the vaccine anytime soon!

WarriorN · 26/02/2021 07:10

@Sadsiblingatsea

It's not dying I'm concerned about.

I've seen enough women my age now, most with asthma, with long Covid that I'm v concerned about that. Having had cfs I do not want to go back to that.

I have an auto immune condition that also would be impacted and make it all so much harder.

WarriorN · 26/02/2021 07:15

The ones wanting to get out and live again are the people I'm concerned about.

Go and live, I am, but follow the rules and have consideration for others who don't have the choice to stay at home but don't yet qualify for a vaccine.

Pastanred · 26/02/2021 07:25

I really think the group 6 people are over emphasising their risk

88% deaths occur early in groups 1-4 -
Not even group 5, never mind 6 and huge numbers are in group 6 so if it was a significant risk, we’d be seeing a greater % in these age groups and we are not

I’m mid 40s, teacher and not concerned at all and neither are my colleagues

Pastanred · 26/02/2021 07:27

As for long covid, you simply cannot cover people to limit their lives to prevent people possibly getting long covid
