And there is a few months to go are you worried about the relaxing of the rules? I’m worried as to how to protect myself..very worried I’ll catch it this time Sad

OP posts:
Mummadeze · 26/02/2021 18:20

No, I had it last year and it wasn’t pleasant but I would prefer to risk having it again than live in lockdown. I am also the type of person who doesn’t worry much about things in general. I completely understand how you feel though and sympathise as everyone is different.

Kobracai · 26/02/2021 18:23

Yanbu. I’ve had my first jab and I’m still worried!

LynetteScavo · 26/02/2021 18:32

I'm not too worried about the relaxing of the rules, as I will continue to wear a mask and Filipe the guidelines. My DC need to have a normal life. I'm not planning on booking any foreign holidays, but they need to be able to meet with friends, go swimming etc so I can't afford to worry too much. My DH is having the vaccine this weekend, and I was more worried about him. I'm not so concerned about myself.

Llh1979 · 26/02/2021 18:56

I was never scared of covid until my 20 year old daughter caught it from work (hospital) she was extremely poorly yet normally a fit and healthy young girl no underlying health issues once rules are relaxed I certainly wont be running to the pub the only person I'll be running to is my family with the knowledge that I can

SweetPetrichor · 26/02/2021 19:05

I’m not worried. We both work from home now, and the only places we go are to get food shopping. It won’t make any difference to our exposure level.

Chloemol · 26/02/2021 19:10

I remain to be convinced SD will be relaxed in June anyway

Annie1919 · 26/02/2021 19:20

@Lemons1571

I am scared shitless tbh. Fucking terrified. DH is a teacher late 40’s with underlying health stuff but no vaccine for a while according to gp as they are running behind. I am also a similar age, not the fittest, confirmed as group 6 but also no vaccine for a while from gp and the nhs online booking says not eligible yet.

I am literally shaking with the jitters as I wfh. There doesn’t seem to be any option except getting some tranquillisers or something. All because our area is a bit slow on rolling out the vaccine compared to some other hubs.

I'm so glad I'm not alone. It really annoys me that people assume that all vulnerable people have been vaccinated in the first 6 grps! Lots of vulnerable keyworkers HAVE NOT been included in these grps! I'm a late 40s teacher with numerous underlying health conditions, who has not been vaccinated! My doctors have said I will not be vaccinated anytime soon. I'm also v worried- especially as the South African Variant is now in the vicinity of my school- but school staff won't be tested for this- unless we live in the neighbourhood- we don't! (and primary chn won't be tested ). It's frightening!
nannykatherine · 26/02/2021 19:23

@RubyWooRed

No I’m not worried at all

I’m sure I will be at the end of the vaccination list as I have zero health issues and haven’t seen a doctor in years and I’m under 40.

I just want some freedom , if all the people with conditions etc are vaccinated by April or earlier then let’s get out and live.

Why should the perfectly fit and able be punished more
We are already being shunted to bottom of vaccination list , let us have our Spring and enjoy the nice weather and see friends and family.

I don’t mind a bit of social distancing in public but otherwise let’s get on with life.

Under 40’s with no health conditions are so so unlikely to be seriously ill.

You might not get as ill but you can spread it to others .. that’s the whole point
janj2301 · 26/02/2021 19:33

If you have your NHS number try booking online yourself, phone GP for number if you don't have a record at home. System is not perfect some people get it when not due, imagine a computer data base checking 60 million individuals there are bound to be errors give it a try

saraclara · 26/02/2021 19:35

@MrsFezziwig

DipSwimSwoosh No but CO OP was so full of elderly people yesterday I couldn't even get in. They are definitely becoming a self confident army now! They’ve been vaccinated so think they are immune.

Could you be any more patronising?

The ageism is ridiculous on this forum. I really wish that MNHQ would be hotter on it.

Elderly people need food. They've had to shop throughout the lockdowns, and oddly enough, most aren't actually stupid and DO know what the vaccine is doing/not ding for them at the moment.

Jeeze, some people won't be happy until all old people are permanently confined to their homes.

MrBullinaChinaShop · 26/02/2021 19:39

My grandmother is ‘elderly’ and has had both vaccinations. She goes to the co-op because she needs to eat, not because she’s a ‘self confident army’.
And I’m glad she does because she lost so much mobility in lockdown number 1 as she didn’t leave the house. At 90, once your mobility is lost you don’t get it back. Her weekly walk to the co-op is keeping her moving.

Annie1919 · 26/02/2021 19:49

@AgeLikeWine

If you’re in a vulnerable group you will be vaccinated very soon, and the vaccines are highly effective. Problem solved.

If you’re not in a vulnerable group, the risk posed by covid is small, but not negligible (like travelling in a car), and you will be offered a vaccine when it’s your turn, so you have very little to worry about. Problem solved.

If only it was that simple! I'm an older, asthmatic teacher with other underlying conditions. My area is significantly behind with vaccines- and I have to wait for group 10 anyway! I will still be expected to return to my classroom unvaccinated next week - in an area with surge testing for South African Variant. (but teachers and pupils will not be being tested for this). NOT ALL VULNERABLE PEOPLE have been vaccinated- pregnant, asthmatic etc etc- are not!
MrBullinaChinaShop · 26/02/2021 19:52

The reason asthmatics aren’t being vaccinated in the vulnerable groups is because research shows that moderate asthma isn’t a risk factor.
I say this as a moderate asthmatic who is happy to wait for my vaccine and is relieved to hear it doesn’t make me as vulnerable to Covid as I previously thought.

expatinspain · 26/02/2021 19:57

Why are you worried? How old are you? Do you have health problems? Are you looking after a family member who has health problems or is very elderly? If the answer is no to these questions, you need to speak to your GP about your anxiety. You are at more risk of coming to real harm from so many other things than Covid, unless you are in an at risk group. I personally know around 30 people who have had Covid now. One ended up in hospital for three days as she has asthma, but the rest had mild/no symptoms and completely recovered. This includes people in their 60's and one 85 year old. The press only like to scare us about the small minority of cases, rather than them vast majority who have recovered completely.

Annie1919 · 26/02/2021 20:59

I'm glad you are reassured. Are you a frontline worker? Would you be happy to spend time in a classroom all day with no-one wearing a mask, no social distancing etc? Do you have any other underlying conditions?
7vio · 26/02/2021 21:02

No. Mid 40th and work in school.

PracticingPerson · 26/02/2021 21:03

But the vulnerable have, mostly, been vaccinated

This is absolutely not true.

The MOST vulnerable (over 70s) have been half vaccinated leaving a very very large pool of moderately vulnerable people completely unprotected.

MrBullinaChinaShop · 26/02/2021 21:12

@Annie1919 yes, yes and yes. My other underlying conditions (an autoimmune condition and PCOS) don’t put me at any greater risk of Covid though according to the current research so I am relieved about that.
I wasn’t talking about your particular circumstances though of course as I don’t know what they are. You may have reason to be more concerned than me. Just saying I personally am glad that it’s now apparent that my asthma doesn’t put me at any additional risk.

Annie1919 · 26/02/2021 21:21

@BustopherPonsonbyJones

I know I’ll get flamed for this, but I’m future I hope we can pay for the vaccine so those who are anxious (like me!) and believe they work in unsafe conditions (schools!) can be protected earlier. I’d pay a decent amount rather than go through this again and be forced to work when others stay safely at home. Hopefully, there will be some spare capacity.
Agreed! I know people who are far lower risk than me who have been vaccinated - who can sit at home (or socialise) while I worry about going into school in a surge area, with underlying health conditions!
wildchild554 · 26/02/2021 21:40

@MrBullinaChinaShop even severe asthmatics are unvacinated.

Please would people stop saying most the vulnerable and extremely vulnerable are vaccinated, they are not, seems to be the older vulnerable. The only people I know who are extremely vulnerable who have been vacinnated are over 50, the younger ones haven't. Thats going off personal experience.

TinselTinsel · 26/02/2021 21:49

I don't think I'll be totally relaxing the rules for myself until I get the vaccine whenever that time may come.
My support bubble currently all have Covid but luckily I didn't have close enough contact to catch it .

AnxietyDrivingMyLife · 26/02/2021 21:50

@expatinspain what am I worried- the press conference today pretty much has confirmed my worries- I’m not supporting another lock down however a pandemic doesn’t disappear just because I’m bored of it..a large majority of people don’t seem to get that...hence my worry and anxiety
If I get it possibly I’ll be able to fight it or possibly I’ll end up in the hospital and die - I don’t know. A lot of us don’t know- so as a society we need to exercise caution until the vaccine drive is complete and there is data to support the success rate...sadly don’t see that happening

OP posts:
wanderings · 26/02/2021 21:52

Nope. I was a key worker in March, April and May last year, and I'm still here to tell the tale. I do intend to have the vaccine when Saint Boris's merry men who are doing such a "fantastic job" at fucking up the country pull their finger out and offer the vaccine to my age group; meanwhile I will not succumb to the government's brainwashing (aided and abetted by no less an authority than Her Majesty) that one is forbidden to live before having the vaccine. I haven't forgotten the government deliberately underselling the vaccine, and now U-turning on that.

expatinspain · 26/02/2021 21:53

OP. Look at the stats. You have more chance of being in a road traffic accident than dying from Covid with no underlying health conditions etc. In the nicest possible way you need to seek help for your anxiety.

CovidHalloween · 26/02/2021 21:53

Yes I am. I know a handful of people in their 30s who caught covid who were very fit and healthy no underlying health condition , one of them is a marathon runner and he ended up on oxygen, couple had it bad and The one who had mild symptoms has long covid now. It’s been months since she had the virus and one had diarriah and tummy aches! Death is not the only nasty that worries me, I just don’t fancy long covid. Just because you are young and no underlying health conditions doesn’t mean you’re a super power.
