Getting vaccine with false information

Oldhag5 · 24/02/2021 22:02

I received a text from a friend with a link to click on and instructions for what information to put into the different fields to get an appointment for this weekend! She has booked one and is only in her early 30s! What do I say to her? I just think it is so so wrong that people are prepared to do something like that and wonder how on earth people are allowed to get away with it. Will they check any ID when she gets there? Even if they do and she is refused that is still a vaccine that could have been used for someone more vulnerable. I am just so cross, please give me some perspective on how I should respond to her! Or should I just mind my own business

I had mine today.
I didn't have to show any ID.
However I did have to give my name and date of birth and they looked me up on the system - this was done twice. Once when checking in and again by the doctor and assistant who did my vaccine. They were obviously using the details to find my medical record as from my details they knew my GP surgery and that I was CV.

I would tell her that you are not happy to get the vaccine before someone who needs it more.

CheeseJalapenoBread · 25/02/2021 10:06

I’d just say “thanks but I’ll wait my turn” and leave it at that.

CovidPostingName · 25/02/2021 10:37

I'd say no thanks, I'd rather have morals and standards, and wait until I'm actual entitled rather than defraud the system. Then I'd start cutting her out. I couldn't be friends with someone like that.

SingANewSongChickenTikka · 25/02/2021 12:57

Depends what false information she’s putting in but she’s likely to either be asked for ID to prove if she’s claimed under occupation (care for example) or they’ll look her up to check her medical records are coded to say she is eligible so there’s a good chance she’ll be turned away, having wasted time and an appointment for someone else.

Almost identical situation with my friends. They got their whole family over the age of 18 done by self declaring that they were CEV or carers when they weren’t. No one checked their ID or backstory.

I feel my relationship with them is very strained and have lost all respect for them. I just said I will wait my turn as it’s meant for CEV and carers. They took offence!

I actually complained to the people in charge of the vaccination centre and received no response. I know 12 people who got the vaccine this way now who are totally ineligible. Mainly all homeworkers too.

How did they bypass the national site? It will only let you book via the site if you have been electronically tagged as CV or a carer by your surgery/the Government departments.

I'm CV and although flagged as such I wasn't eligible to book via the system. It simply says not eligible since to contact by Gp if I felt there was an issue.

I was called via my GP.

They didn’t “bypass” the NHS site. They used the separate link on the local authority website which the LA themselves are freely sharing on social media designed for over 65s, CEV and Carers. They used a link not meant for them (had to check a box saying they were CEV, Over 65 or a Carer) and nobody checked at the vaccination centres.

I’m happy to send you the link via PM to prove I’m not lying but hope you can understand why I wouldn’t want to share it publicly here in case it’s further abused.

Boulshired · 25/02/2021 13:47

Well that the la stupidity, there will be plenty of people who will book themselves believing that they are in the right group when they are not as well as those trying to cheat the system. They have opened a walk in centre here but you still need to provide evidence. Even local sites should have a coding system.

Sandgrown1970 · 25/02/2021 14:04

I agree the LA is stupid but there’s no way it’s possible to know you aren’t defrauding the system. It says at least three times in the process “Please do not book an appointment unless you are over 65, Clinically Extremely Vulnerable or a paid or unpaid carer for someone who is paid to receive care.”

The final step in booking is that you have to declare you fit into one of those categories and and will bring proof.

They knew exactly what they were doing in booking when then were ineligible. It’s in bold that in booking when you are ineligible you are depriving someone older or more vulnerable of an appointment to get their vaccine.

I can’t help but see them as total scum now.

Oldhag5 · 25/02/2021 19:12

I really hope she does get turned away and shown up but then her appointment will have deprived someone else of a vaccine...I told her I was going to wait my turn but I am seriously questioning the friendship now I can’t believe anyone can be so selfish. I’m glad it’s not just me that feels this way.
She did it via a link someone had sent her also and said she clicked that she worked for the county council as an administrator and that was how she got the appointment!

If it organised by LA they may ask for her work ID badge. With healthcare priority vaccinations you had to show your NHS ID or a letter from your work place. They were very strict, but it was a clinic specifically for healthcare workers and not one of the hubs or GP vaccination centres.
She may get caught out if it is a dedicated LA vaccination site. Our local LA had their own Covid testing site.
Hopefully she gets the AZ and has lots of sides effects.
