She had Covid in December and still has no taste. I say no taste, in fact everything tastes 'rotten'.

She's so fed up with it. Anyone else still suffering after so long?

That's so horrible for her.

I had Covid in January and lost my sense of smell for a while. It's back now but still not quite right.

I believe there are some support groups online for those whose smell and taste is taking longer to return. Perhaps she could look at joining one of those. Have you contacted your gp to see if they can suggest anything.

I do hope it starts to return. I believe most people do get it back even if it takes a while.

sounds horrible hope she gets better soon

Hi, thank you for the replies.

I have sugested calling the GP, I said to her that they might have some reasonable experience of this now and some suggestions but she wasn't keen. I might just call anyway.

I wasn't aware of the support online, so thanks for that.

She's just not eating whole meals because it tastes so horrible but she's aware that she'll be losing weight. She can't afford to lose any more as she was having trouble gaining weight anyway.

Thank you.

Speak to the GP. The covid follow up clinics are helping with these issues.

Porcupineintherough · 25/02/2021 07:37

Speak to your gp and ask that she be referred to a COVID recovery clinic. They wont be able to cure her (at least not at the moment) but they will be able to offer support and strategic for helping with eating. Poor girl. Sad

My son (14) had the same for around 6 months he got a rotten taste/smell in his throat and nose , chicken especially smelt and tasted like sewage
He found he could stomach things like vegetable chilli, veg curry, plain pasta , jacket potatoes and tomato soup and that was about what he lived on, washed down with water
He still doesn’t like the taste of meat but can taste the ‘right’ tastes for most other foods now

loveyoutothemoon · 26/02/2021 12:38

@Pinotplants I'm sorry your son suffered too but glad he's getting his taste back!

Thanks for the ideas of foods, she also has a problem with meat, it just tastes so mouldy!

Maybe have a look at the ideas on the Eating Disorders board Tern support thread for ideas on getting calories into your DD.

There are tips like full fat dairy, adding oil to meals and various fortified drinks etc.

I would think it’s about trying to make it as easy as possible for her to maintain weight.
