I'm really not looking to start a bunfight. Just tying to better understand the reasons if you are not planning on allowing your child to be tested.

@Lulu49

What possible reason could anyone have for not allowing their child to be tested?! 🤷‍♀️

Because they've done some "reading" don't you know?

Incase no one gets it, as there is a lot of stupidity on this thread, that's sarcasm. There isn't one.

BabyElephant2 · 25/02/2021 22:58

I see no reason to involve children in this and testing perfectly healthy kids is a joke. I’d rather the ones scared of catching a cough stayed home to allow the rest to have a normal education.

TheMoth · 25/02/2021 22:59

Go back to school lazy arse teachers!

Well, can we have some safety measures?

What? Yes, yes, masks.....tests....hands... face....space. schools will be totally safe.

Cheers, see you on the 8th.

Erm, when we said masks...tests....we erm, we didn't really mean anyone HAD to wear them. Or test. Oh, and good luck with all the assessment appeals. See you at the polls.

But hey, got to keep those case numbers up. Add to this the new symptoms (fatigue? headache? FFS) and we’ll be back up shits creek before we know it.

Why on earth would anyone want to keep case numbers up? If that was the agenda, the government wouldn't have bothered with lockdown at all.

It's also quite right to include other symptoms. I had Covid, but I hadn't had a cough, a temperature, or any change in ability to taste things.

Not involve the children? are they immune? Shut the door! No one told me!!

Why don't you just be honest and tell us all you don't believe covid is real, as we can all infer it from your last ignorant statement.

Nith · 25/02/2021 23:05

@Whatisthisfuckery

I won’t be giving consent to test my child, and as far as I’m concerned I don’t owe anybody any justification for my decision.
But presumably you justify it to yourself? Would you mind telling us how? I really am genuinely trying to understand.

Because it isn't real. Hasn't anyone told you either? I just found out that kids are immune!!! Shocked I tell you!

My dds are worried about catching Covid and passing it on to their medically vulnerable brother - they don't particularly want to wear masks, or have tests...but they do want their school to be as safe as possible so that their brother doesn't get very ill. They are not 'scared of a cough'...they are caring, intelligent and pretty fucking incredible.

You don't think kids are already caught up in all this? You know lockdown, no school, isolation that type of thing 🤷‍♀️
BungleandGeorge · 25/02/2021 23:14

@KatyR090909

Then it’s not lateral flow. I understand, those are terrible. However, I work in pharmaceuticals and I take a PCR (what you’ve described) 3 times a week. It’s not that big of a deal. But it does suck.
Yes it is LFT. Essentially you stick the swab in water for 30 minutes and use that as your sample
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 25/02/2021 23:17

@Notestinghere

No haven’t consented I feel it’s overkill. Children who arent being tested are back to school as normal, I had to look into this on gov website as the letter from the school made it seem as if testing was mandatory.
Absolutely they are. However if any of them have the virus how long do you think they will be back in as normal?

Your school will be full of cases in no time. Lots of isolating for 10 days or even public health England temporarily closing the school.

Schools are going back whilst everything else is still in lockdown because community cases are still too high. If we don't take measures they won't be open for long.

Seriously it is like a void of people with no logical reasoning ability here sometimes

Icequeen01 · 25/02/2021 23:27

Can I ask those of you who are testing at home - how are you disposing of the tests? We can't find a company who will dispose if the ones from school! It's a nightmare!

saraclara · 25/02/2021 23:31
@RubyViolet - passes what onto someone? If DD is not showing any symptoms, she's not ill. The number of false positives makes me suspicious of the test's reliability. If any of us were ill, we'd isolate

 • whether that's with covid or flu or anything else - that goes without saying. My conscience is clear.
It seems you've not heard of asymptomatic infection then?

There are very few false positives, and anyway, if you test positive you get a full test done, so in 24 hours you'll know one way or the other.

wildchild554 · 25/02/2021 23:34

@Icequeen01 The one we get we post the test back to get results so no disposal needed.

HazeyJaneII · 25/02/2021 23:36
@Icequeen01 The one we get we post the test back to get results so no disposal needed.
Surely the results wouldn't come back quickly enough if you need to post them?

saraclara · 25/02/2021 23:36

my dd had already said said shes not having the tests and at 12 yrs old i cant force her and why should i ?

You can't force her, but you can have a conversation with her about what the test is there for, and how it would be public-spirited of her to take it so that she doesn't put more vulnerable people in her class at risk. You can reassure her it won't be uncomfortable (these tests aren't like the full tests where they stick the cotton bud up until it feels like it's reached your brain) and that she'll get used to it. In short you do the responsible adult/ parent thing, like you do with every other thing your child's been hesitant about since they were born.

wildchild554 · 25/02/2021 23:38

@HazeyJaneII usually takes 4-5 days to get results

VicarofDibley · 25/02/2021 23:43

Absolutely mine is .They are happy and being cev it makes me safer because we all know kids can be asymptomatic.

HazeyJaneII · 25/02/2021 23:45

On this NHS self testing leaflet, it says to dispose of in household rubbish

Is anyone planning on refusing to allow their children to have the lateral flow tests.
VicarofDibley · 25/02/2021 23:46

I do understand there will be sen children who won't be able to cope with it and that is understandable .But parents saying no for no valid reason then that i don't get .

Freddie28 · 25/02/2021 23:51

@TinaYouFatLard

My children cannot and I do not consent to any regular, invasive and dehumanising procedures to be carried out on my perfectly healthy children.

If they show any sign at all of illness, then I would test.

You may never see any signs, but they could still have it and pass it on. It certainly isn't dehumanising them. Using the swab up their nose is hardly 'invasive', unless your children have never stuck their finger up their nose to remove a difficult bogey. It takes less than 10 seconds. The test, after they are shown what to do on their first one, are not an issue for any of our students, the students at my school just see it as the norm now. We, as staff are tested twice a week.
SE13Mummy · 25/02/2021 23:56

I've consented for both my DC, having first discussed it with them. Y7 DC has been worrying about the tests for weeks but I've been able to get a home test kit so they've practised self-swabbing and now feel OK about it. Y11 DC came to me this morning outraged that peers were saying they would refuse testing, couldn't be forced to etc etc. DC1 is disappointed so many classmates are saying they won't be tested and that they seem to have no understanding of/interest in keeping the school community as safe as possible.

DH and I are both teachers and have been at school throughout but our DC have both become more aware of the possibility of one of us being infected via a child we teach since one of my siblings is thought to have contracted Covid-19 from their young child who attends nursery. No one else in the family has left the house for months but their child was taken to hospital by ambulance a few days ago so that may have had an impact on my DCs' agreement to test too.

Icequeen01 · 25/02/2021 23:57

Thanks @HazeyJaneII - I am really surprised by that. When I spoke to a couple of companies about the disposal of the tests we do at school (we are only a small SEN school so we won't be talking about thousands) I was told the LFD's had to be incinerated but that no-one had any capacity at the moment. Our used tests are bagged up in a locked cupboard until I can find someone to dispose of them!

HazeyJaneII · 26/02/2021 00:00

It does seem a bit mad doesn't it! Dh said that at his workplace a waste management team take them away.

Icequeen01 · 26/02/2021 00:02

I've tried all the local waste management companies (including two we currently have contracts with) and they both said they are inundated and have no further capacity.
