MissMarpleTheMurderer · 24/02/2021 13:00

Trying to help a friend, has anyone seen any clarification on severe mental illness other than schizophrenia/bi polar or 'severe functional impairment '
Does anyone know what severe mental impairment actually means.
we've tried speaking to the doctors who say deal with mental health team, mental health team say its a matter for the doctors. 119 was very helpful but are only reading from the same script I can see online.

The green book is really vague on this, unfortunately. So no, there isn't official clarity on it as far as I know. Severe mental impairment would be up to the clinician to judge and they'd have to code the patient correctly to get them into group 6 and I'm not sure how that would work as normally the system codes them automatically. But it would be the GP surgery who has to do it as they will be doing the coding and inviting. Perhaps an appointment directly With the GP, but they may well not know either as all they have to follow is the Green Book (chapter 14) guidance. Which is vague.

It looks like it's let to the interpretation of doctors. My surgery originally said that mental health doesn't belong to group 6. I needed to call later again and they time I could book appointment.

If the psychiatrist can contact the Gp if they believe it is group 6 can get a vaccine booked under Group 6. If the Gp doing group 6 yet.

I need to do this too so following with interest

Orangeblossom1977 · 24/02/2021 20:28

I asked GP, he said no to me. On olanzapine and fluoxetine, have regular blood tests...

XenoBitch · 24/02/2021 20:43

It all seems really inconsistent. I have seen members say they have been offered the vaccine on account of their mental health and they are on the bare minimum of meds, only have mild anxiety/depression, and hold down a job.

Orangeblossom1977 · 24/02/2021 21:32

Is there some kind of register of Severe Mental Illness perhaps? That does sound inconsistent. I thought it was certain meds and combinations causing the issues to be with covid...

Orangeblossom1977 · 24/02/2021 21:33

I'm on high rate PIP and ESA. Didn't make any difference

Orangeblossom1977 · 24/02/2021 21:34

I noticed on another thread someone with Schizoaffective said they had been turned down as well

bungobango · 25/02/2021 07:57

@Orangeblossom1977 I was the one with schitzoaffective. I called the surgery again and this time they agreed that I am in group 6. I could book vaccination and I will have the jab this morning.

Orangeblossom1977 · 25/02/2021 11:44

OK that's good bungobango
