Lots of young(ish) people having vaccines

DK123 · 23/02/2021 22:49

I've noticed a lot of people in my age group (30s) posting pictures of their vaccination cards on SM.

I'm not sure why so many younger people have been vaccinated already, does anyone know why it might be? (I don't like to ask) It's impossible that they are all ECV, there are too many of them to all be and the criteria for getting the vaccine for that reason aren't that wide. I'm certain that none of the people I'm talking about have any sort of care or clinical jobs. I know people who work in hospitals etc who've had it but I'm not referring to them. I'm not sure if some people could have paid to get it - I don't know if that's even possible.

I just wondered if anyone else had noticed this and if anyone knows why?

My friend works with the homeless and had hers a few weeks ago.

Justmuddlingalong · 23/02/2021 22:52

If they're your friends I presume you would know if their jobs or health meant they were vaccinated early. If they're SM randoms, you won't.

Branleuse · 23/02/2021 22:53

Sometimes its possible that their vaccination centre has done everyone in the higher tiers already and has surplace that needs to be used.
Sometimes its because they work in the NHS or are an unpaid carer to someone vulnerable disabled or elderly. Sometimes they may have a health condition you dont know about such as diabetes or serious mental health condition.

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 23/02/2021 22:54

They’re doing group 6 now, so just CV rather than CEV. Includes plenty of medical conditions that you wouldn’t necessarily know someone had.

It is not possible to pay to get it.

Comefromaway · 23/02/2021 22:54

The ones I know are either doing voluntary work or are unpaid carers.

Comefromaway · 23/02/2021 22:56

Someone just posted on a local group the have been invited and don’t know why. It turned out they had childhood epilepsy which puts them in group 6. The same for anyone who had gestational diabetes.

CookEatRepeat · 23/02/2021 22:56

DD had hers because of a condition none of her friends know about and that she would not discuss. There are likely many in the same situation now.

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/02/2021 22:58

The ones in their 30s that I know who have had it have been due to underlying conditions - not CEV but CV.

I'm 45, not.in the age group to be vaccinated yet, no clinical medical conditions, but had my jab last week because I provide unpaid personal care to a family member. Maybe some of these posts you saw are the same (don't formally work in care but still provide care), but in short the only way you will find out is if you ask them directly
Hophop26 · 23/02/2021 22:58

The rollout is on to group 6 now, that includes millions of people in their 20s and 30s, and many of whom will appear very healthy but do have underlying health conditions that likely don’t bother them on a day-to-day basis. It also includes quite a lot of parents that are eligible in group 6 as unpaid carers due to illnesses their children have.

Helloyouthere · 23/02/2021 23:02

The ones I know of in my area (different areas might be at slightly different stages) are high BMI

Angel2702 · 23/02/2021 23:06

I am in my 30s and had it as a carer but also qualify for group six for another condition that nobody apart from family would know about. My husband also had his today on his 30s and he qualified for 3 criteria that wouldn’t be known about to most people.

Heart conditions, previous history of blood clots, gestational diabetes, mental health conditions, psoriasis, asthma all conditions under group 6 you wouldn’t always know about it isn’t always obvious.

Boulshired · 23/02/2021 23:07

I would assume work or health and I certainly wouldn’t ask.

Guidebutton · 23/02/2021 23:08

Depending on your local authority, there's quite a wide range of jobs that qualify.

The director of public health here is currently pushing for taxi drivers to be next in the list, as statistically they're at far higher risk than some of the more high profile key workers.

partyatthepalace · 23/02/2021 23:11

All sorts of reasons - loads and loads of younger people are in group six. Plus some areas have spare capacity, and some are ahead of themselves. Plus the fact a mass vaccination programme is by definition broad brushstroke - some people will get called early. The main thing is turn up and have it when called. People fannying about querying call ups slow the system down. The more of us vaccinated the safer we’ll be.

HereComesATractor · 23/02/2021 23:13

The reasons why you don’t like to ask are probably the same ones for why they haven’t said - because it’s related to their health and circumstances which are personal and private

Whatafabulousday · 23/02/2021 23:14

Who cares honestly, every vaccination is one person closer to getting out of this total nightmare.

lunapeace · 23/02/2021 23:15

I know two people in this group who are having their vaccines this week 35 and 50. They have already had Covid and were fine. I'm just anxious that my mum in her early 60s still has a while to wait.

GoneCrazy · 23/02/2021 23:20

On a side note I really dislike people who do this...

pregnantncnc · 23/02/2021 23:24

Some might be volunteering, some might have conditions like diabetes, some might be foster carers, some might be working with the public e.g. council employees. I know people in their 20s in the above categories who have had their vaccinations already. I also know of people who were called by their work or GP practice near the end of the day to be offered surplus vaccines because people did not turn up to take theirs.

earthyfire · 23/02/2021 23:24

I know two people in their early 40s who've had the vaccine, they are carers for their husbands.

jendifer · 23/02/2021 23:29

I’m a therapist trainee so had mine due to that - BoJo wants more therapists working in person to relieve GPs. I told a few friends I was having it and everyone asked why, which is understandable. If I’d put it on social media then I imagine others might have been confused as most people don’t know a. I’m doing the course and b. Therapists can get the vaccine.

CaptainCarp · 23/02/2021 23:38

Of the under 65s who I know have had the vaccine or booked for 1 they have been:
Diabetic
Epileptic
Severely asthmatic
NHS workers
Volunteering as testers
On medication that increases their risk (this one didn't actually know this until the got the letter & queried it)

Most of these people would outwardly appear completely healthy most of the time.

I was hoping DP would be called up in group 6 as he's asthmatic & can't WFH (we are in a fairly high rate area) But I don't think his is classed as severe.

I'm just hoping his doctors have actually changed his address so that he doesn't miss out when he does get called.

battyberyl · 23/02/2021 23:43

My relative is in a care home ,early 60's with an illness classing him as cev and yet still not had the vaccine.

Shrivelled · 23/02/2021 23:46

It’s all about who statistically is more likely to put pressure on the nhs if they got covid. I’m seemingly fit and healthy and mid 30s but I’m in group 6. It’s because statistically people with my medical history who get covid, are at increased risk of needing a hospital bed compared to others my age who don’t have my condition. All anyone can do is just wait to be invited and take the vaccine when they are. It’s no ones fault if they’re offered a vaccine before someone else who might be more in need.
