Lots of young(ish) people having vaccines

DK123 · 23/02/2021 22:49

I've noticed a lot of people in my age group (30s) posting pictures of their vaccination cards on SM.

I'm not sure why so many younger people have been vaccinated already, does anyone know why it might be? (I don't like to ask) It's impossible that they are all ECV, there are too many of them to all be and the criteria for getting the vaccine for that reason aren't that wide. I'm certain that none of the people I'm talking about have any sort of care or clinical jobs. I know people who work in hospitals etc who've had it but I'm not referring to them. I'm not sure if some people could have paid to get it - I don't know if that's even possible.

I just wondered if anyone else had noticed this and if anyone knows why?

My friends in their 30s and 40s who have had it either have underlying health conditions or they are some type of carer.

Cowmilk · 24/02/2021 11:14

I called my Gp to book an appointment for myself and was told I could bring people in my household over 18 with me but I need to book them in. Because I’m now on the shielding list. Are they getting vaccinated this way?

Cowmilk · 24/02/2021 11:20

Ps, no one qualifies in my household. Dh got his dose from work.

Also lot of people have changed jobs and are not advertising their new roles. For example, my cousin is doing care work to tide his family up, because he lost his business. He is not ready to admit it publicly yet. Because he sees losing his shop as a failure. His wife asked us not to mention it to him.

There is no shame in doing care work otherwise he wouldn’t do it. But he is grieving losing his shop and work identity.

The current eligible group 6 goes down to 16 years old, so yes, there will be lots of young(ish) people getting vaccinated...

CoffeeWithCheese · 24/02/2021 12:05

I've had mine - didn't post the card on anywhere but my uni course means we fall into the frontline health and care staff grouping because of clinical placements. DH has had his for various health reasons he doesn't tend to shout about around the place.

119 let me book my eldest DD (20) for a vaccine under her social care job (private nanny for 5 SEN children, ages 3 - 11), we are just back from the vaccination site but she was turned away as they told us the guidelines have changed 2 days ago so she was no longer eligible (and due to lockdowns, she was unable to take her driving test until July so I'm now the taxi service taking her to and fro work etc Hmm )
Sad

SeasonFinale · 24/02/2021 12:12

Why does it even matter OP? Just be thankful that the more people that get vaccinated the quicker the numbers will drop to allow the roadmap out of lockdown to work.

For people I know:

Care home workers
Youth workers
Unpaid Carers (for parents/grandparents/siblings)
CEV
work for NHS

Lots work with or near very vulnerable people and so it makes sense. (So pleased that they are getting vaccinated and not joining the very small minority of anti vax/youtube rubbish spreaders)

PurpleWh1teGreen · 24/02/2021 14:25

@Pastanred

NHS and social care are sharing links giving people access to the big vaccination centres

I've been offered it loads and know loads who've done it (i haven't - don't agree with it)

No one at the big centres are checking and the link isn't to the normal site - it's a specific link given to employers based on eligibility e.g social care who work with vulnerable who then share with family

i know more who've queue jumped than who haven't

There is (or was) some truth in this, but there is now a pushback & people are required to show work ID.

The link was wrongly shared by some of the commercial nursery chains who encouraged their staff to apply. I'm glad to say this has now been picked up & ineligible people are being turned away until it is their turn.

FaithfullyYours · 24/02/2021 14:59

I'm in that age group but CV due to an autoimmune condition(not blatantly visible)and had my vaccine today.

Didn't and won't post my card anywhere though.

Frazzled2207 · 24/02/2021 15:30

I have two very healthy young friends suddenly on the group 6 list and they have no idea why. They have had a letter to ask them to go for a vaccine although they are HCPs so had it already.

Another is a mum of a disabled boy and I assume that counts as a carer?

Pissedoff1234 · 24/02/2021 15:41

I've had mine, I'm in my 40's and have no known conditions. Pretty sure even people I know fairly well don't know why as they know I work in an office. I work with a charity though with vulnerable families. I don't see many of them but our whole company was invited by the nhs to have them done.

ThePinkWig · 24/02/2021 15:56

I'm 40 and had mine yesterday. I think it's because I had a PE in pregnancy that has left scaring on my lung - I've had pneumonia twice. I'm not sure though as they didn't say the reason I was being offered the vaccine, I just accepted it - the more people vaccinated the better. I certainly wouldn't post my vaccination card on social media though.

cadburyegg · 24/02/2021 16:06

I'm in group 6 due to having coeliac disease, many people on my social media don't know I have it and those that do probably wouldn't realise that it puts you in a priority group. I haven't had my jab yet though. I am visibly healthy, age 33 so it's not obvious

CeeJay81 · 24/02/2021 16:46

I'm another one, not totally sure why but I've just been offered mine for next week. I'm nearly 40. The only thing I can think of is childhood epilepsy, but a few years ago when I rang up about it due to trying to get a provisional driving license all it said on my records was fits when I was about 4. Although I was on medication for it till I was 12. Been fine since an adult.

OverTheRainbow88 · 24/02/2021 16:55

Apart from those working for NHS I don’t know anyone my age (30s) or my OHs age (40s) who have been vaccinated.

JemimaMuddledUp · 24/02/2021 17:10

I'm CEV, but most people on my SM wouldn't know this. I posted a picture of my vaccination card when I had the vaccine and I subsequently got quite a few people questioning me on how I'd managed to "jump the queue".

DontFuckingCallMeCis · 24/02/2021 17:13

Could be their jobs or due to shielding - asthma, diabetes etc....?

yearinyearout · 25/02/2021 07:50

Or you know half a dozen men who don't want to tell you what their health condition is.

That could be true, but they've chosen to put posts on fb saying "oh, I've had an appointment text, no idea why as I'm not group 6/no health conditions" or something to that effect. If I had a secret health condition I wouldn't bother posting about it at all. Since yesterday morning two of my closest female friends have had texts too, and they definitely aren't group 6 either.
