Pfizer vaccine side effects timeframe?

I've just moved a couple of hours away and have been given an appointment to get the Pfizer jab near the old place tomorrow. How long does it take for side effects to kick in? I'm the only driver in the house and I'd prefer to drive back here afterwards but have the option of staying at the old place. I could really do with not being stuck there for days as then I'd probably need to deal with the rest of the packing and with the movers by myself rather than come up with my husband the night before the move.

depends really! i have known many people who have had none but a sore arm

Bacardi101 · 23/02/2021 21:00

The only side effect I had was a very sore arm (couldn’t lift it) but that didn’t come on until about 3/4hrs after. Hope it goes ok 😊

DH felt dodgy after 6 hours, my symptoms kicked in after 8. We were both completely fine after 36 hours. Other colleagues had no unpleasant effects at all.

My advice would be to get where you want to be straight afterwards just in case. You’ll probably feel OK anyway.

I had my vaccine at 1.30pm had a slight sore arm but nothing major then on Saturday mid morning I started with headaches/chills and flu like symptoms so went to bed on Saturday afternoon. Felt a bit better on Saturday night but not my usual self but by Sunday I felt absolutely fine.

Not Pfizer but i had the AZ vaccine Sunday evening, side effects kicked in about 8hrs later

My parents in their 80’s had Pfizer no side effects, DH has a sore arm.

QueenStromba · 24/02/2021 10:02

Thanks everyone, I'll make sure they do my right arm and drive back here after.

All done. Had a headache when I got back but I think that was due to being stuck at roadworks on a hilly road and a lot of cars having really obnoxious headlights.

How did you get on afterwards Queen?

QueenStromba · 26/02/2021 09:21

Hi Janet - I was feeling quite feverish that evening. Felt very fluey and tired yesterday - definitely couldn't have driven. I'm still feeling quite drained today and my arm is pretty sore but I'm not feeling foggy anymore - I could probably do the drive if I really had to but I'm glad I don't need to.

Sounds quite like my experience - glad you’re improving now though. In our case it was a quite sudden improvement especially the arm. We have booked time off for after our 2nd dose!

QueenStromba · 26/02/2021 10:52

Thanks. I'm really hoping the local vaccination centre can do my second one since I hadn't been home long before I reacted this time! They said on the phone it should be ok.

First jab I only had a sore arm several hours later.

Second jab and I got a bad case of chills and exhaustion about 8 hours later. I slept for 11 hours, felt better, and was a bit weak the second day.
