What is the actual plan?

I can see people celebrating. The news websites aren't saying much. Didn't catch it live ...

Is this the end of lockdown? I thought rates were still high - I thought we had a highly contagious variant - I thought the NHS was still struggling ...

What's going on?

It’s not the end of lockdown, but a path out in stages. Looks like all restrictions lifted 21st June so we have an end date.

Thank you.

This looks to me like they've abandoned lockdown altogether as a strategy and are going back to the original Plan A which was herd immunity.

All dates are provisional

GoldenOmber · 22/02/2021 18:24

I believe there my be some sort of vaccine now? Definitely heard a rumour.

midgedude · 22/02/2021 18:24

And no they are not going for herd immunity

They are expecting that vaccination will keep R below 1

Natural R was 3. I read today that because of vaccination so far , the maximum possible R is 2 , so it takes less effort to keep R below 1

Low case rate and R below 1 seems to be the target

Except not, it all ties in with people actually being vaccinated!!
Racoonworld · 22/02/2021 18:26

No not heard immunity. We have vaccines that cut transmission and greatly reduce hospitalisation.

Dustyboots · 22/02/2021 18:35

Oh - yes vaccines - just heard on Radio 4 though that scientists are saying that vaccines will not control the spread. So there will be some sort of herd immunity plus vaccines.

Was there any more information given on who will be given the vaccine after 50+ ?

ragged · 22/02/2021 18:44

Of course they are going for herd immunity and this was always a preferred option to perenial lockdowns, and the only way out unless a true miracle drug was found.

Herd immunity Through vaccines. Mass Vaccination is a safe path to herd immunity. Why do you oppose vaccination, OP?

Racoonworld · 22/02/2021 18:45

Yes, it’s been recommended to stick with age groups. With all adults offered one jab by end July (but likely to be sooner).
midgedude · 22/02/2021 19:48

At worst the scientists say that the amount of control of spread from vaccine is not well. Quantified
