No, it's not right. CEV people have been expected to send their children back to school or risk fines since September. You can ask school, some are more lenient than others. But the policy is that your children should be in school if it is open.

WasThereAplan · 22/02/2021 15:45

Ok thanks I’m going to ask then as dont feel happy to send them back till my shielding period is up

I hope you've had at least the 1st dose of the vaccine x

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/02/2021 15:47

Talk to the school. Have you had your vaccine yet?

WasThereAplan · 22/02/2021 17:34

DH had the recent shielding letter. Not sure but I think you can now book your vaccine using the online booking system.

FoolsAssassin · 22/02/2021 17:40

DH just looked, seems like you can.

minipie · 22/02/2021 17:43

Don’t wait to be invited, book yourself a vaccine asap! I had a shielding lettr last Thurs, was jabbed on Sat. Should have most of the protection by the time the DC go back.

TheKeatingFive · 22/02/2021 17:45

Talk to the school. I don’t think anyone is getting fined for this.

WasThereAplan · 22/02/2021 17:47

Oh is the link in that email ?I don’t think I saw one ?

I thought I needed to wait for a text

I thought all officially shielded people had already been offered/had the vaccine (except housebound people who are taking longer to get round). That is terrible if you haven’t had yours yet.

I have been shielding (except when it paused in the summer) since Narch last year

And no, even when a pupil has a CEV person in their direct household, they are still expected to attend school. And if they do not, schools do not have to provide work and it’s theoretically possible that absence management steps can be taken (though I don’t think that has actually happened)

In practice, we just learn to live with this sword of Damocles (and try not to over-react when we see yet another thread saying that those who find schools too risky should just de-reg)

1.7 million extra people received a shielding letter last week
beckypv · 22/02/2021 18:15

Ah yes, I forgot about the new shielders. I hope you get it soon.
