I had my first pfizer jab 23rd dec and had sore arm for 24 hrs and a headsche, then xmas day and boxing day felt washed out.
I have heard that the 2nd dose can sometimes be worse, has anyone had their 2nd and did you get side effects.

My SIL had really bad nausea and vomiting after Pfizer #2 and had to be treated in hospital - drip and anti-emetic injection

pinkkoala · 20/02/2021 23:26

Wow, wasn't expecting the side effects to be that bad, hope she soon felt better.

Oh no!

I had first jab yesterday, felt lightheaded and dizzy a few hours latter, back and armuscles seizing up, vomiting, splitting headache, high temp but feeling cold / shaking.

Was hoping 2nd jab would be better!

Adarajames · 20/02/2021 23:33

I had barely any side effects after number 1, just a bit of a sore upper arm for around 12 hrs.

I had jab 2 on Thursday, was ok after and through till Friday afternoon when I started to feel rough, and today I’ve been in bed all day feeling pretty grim, like when I’ve just been getting over the flu - heavy and aching limbs, joint pain, glands in neck and under arm on side of jab really sore and swollen and just feeling completely wiped out.

Feeling a little better now thankfully but not planning on doing anything tomorrow yet.

This was with Pfizer vaccine, 3 weeks between doses.

Adarajames · 20/02/2021 23:34

@JoyOrbison - that with the AZ jab?

JoyOrbison · 21/02/2021 00:36

Adarajames yes, AZ jab. Blooming wiped me out yesterday and feeling better but not 100% today.

Adarajames · 21/02/2021 00:42

@JoyOrbison I’ve heard of far more violent reactions to AZ than Pfizer, all those I know that were really ill after first dose had been given AZ, one to the degree that they’ve booked them a hospital bed for their second dose!

JoyOrbison · 21/02/2021 00:47

Uh oh! I'll be very specific when I go back for the 2nd jab about reactions to the 1st jab!

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 21/02/2021 01:46

I am wondering about jab #2 with AZ...
I had my first one on Thursday and it completely wiped me out on Friday with headaches, muscle aches, fever, teeth chattering... does this mean the second jab will be even worse?

TheHouseElf · 21/02/2021 02:43

Had a few relatives and friends who have had their 1st injections, and a few have felt "rough" following it, with sore arms etc, but back to normal the following day.
Not sure if this will help, but I was talking to one of my brothers today, who is a retired bio-chemist, and he said this is a normal reaction and a good reaction as it shows that your body if immediately working with the vaccine. He did say that having the 2nd vaccine can produce a worse reaction and this is something to do with the body being "challenged" by the vaccine for a second time. However, again, this is totally normal and expected, and nothing to worry about.

Adarajames · 21/02/2021 03:13

Yes, 2nd dose is far more likely to give reaction / more severe reaction than first. Although I feel rough currently, I’m not worried as am glad my body is responding as will hopefully mean my immunity will be better than if had a lacklustre response. Plus I’m very aware that I’m so lucky to have had any, let alone both doses and in the ideal time periods, as I’m not in any of the high category groups

MummyPop00 · 21/02/2021 09:18

Just had a look at an Irish website which says 2nd jab reactions are more profound with Pfizer & Moderna than AZ.

This makes me happy as I had the AZ & didn’t fancy another bout of feeling crappy. Hope it’s true.

I am nHS and we have been ‘advised’ that when we have our second vaccinations to arrange them when we are not on shift the following day due to side effects.

pinkkoala · 21/02/2021 22:54

Sounds like the pfizer is worse on the 2nd jab.
I am a hca and our 1st ones were booked for us, most of us it was during a shift or just before, we then found out that it was advisable for us to have it when not on shift.

Just had 2nd pfizer. Feel horrific. Nothing after 1st just sore arm but I feel like I have flu and sick bug now! Thankfully its Sunday.

borntobequiet · 14/03/2021 07:37

AZ - I felt unwell for 24 hours after the first but absolutely fine after the second, no effects other than a slightly sore arm and even that wasn’t as bad as previously.

madaboutrunning · 14/03/2021 07:51

I've had both - AZ. First one I had no after effects at all, not even a sore arm. Second one I just felt really drained and tired for 24 hours afterwards.

DH has had both (Pfizer) and had almost identical after effects. My DF and DM in their 80s/90s have had both Pfizer and had no after effects fo the first and only a sore arm after the second.

Madmog · 14/03/2021 07:54

My Auntie had no side effects from either Pfizer vaccine. If was covid she caught from her DS 15 days after first vaccine that wiped her out!
