New to shielding

Like many others I received an email on Thursday advising me to shield. I'm effectively shielding already, and sticking to the rules so it doesn't actually make that much difference to me right now.

I'm just wondering how many people are changing their behavior as a result of these new shielding emails and finding themselves on the CEV list.

I won't be changing my behaviour at all. I work in a hospital sometimes with covid positive people. I've already received one vaccine too. Reason for my letter was gestational diabetes and my son is nearly 3 so I don't think there is that much risk tbh.

I got the letter too. I’ve been really careful since the beginning anyway as I had a baby in Feb 2020.

I’ll carry on the same, all we do is go for a long walk every day. Shopping has been done online since the start of the pandemic anyway.

Me too. I've been pretty careful, I work in a school two days a week on a rota and don't really go anywhere else, an occasional trip to the supermarket. I had my first vaccine yesterday. I can't see much point in changing the little that I do at this stage.

Interesting to see we're all of a similar mindset. Thank you.

Would you meet up with one friend to go for a walk? The shielding weren't supposed to in lockdown 1.0 but I see we can now.

I've been shielding since March. In the first lockdown we weren't supposed to go out for a walk at all, let alone with a friend, but they realised that this was having a huge impact on our mental health.

I'm actually in a bubble with a friend who lives alone, and I go for a walk with them once a week. I know that they are super careful - working from home, shopping online etc, so I feel safe doing this. Only you know your friends and what you feel safe with.

doireallyneedaname · 20/02/2021 21:54

No, I wouldn’t. I didn’t before either though, just didn’t feel it was a good idea and the baby keeps us busy anyway.

Thanks. I feel safe in my home bubble because all my family have had the vaccine or covid or both. None of my friends has had the vaccine or covid and all are going to work and shops.

I won't do it. You've helped me make my mind up!
