Anyone had the vaccine yet?

Hi, not sure what i’m expecting here... I’ve got myself booked in for a covid jab as I’ve got various health conditions.

I’m extremely nervous as my family are anti vaccine... So I’ve not been able to tell them I’m going for it. When I have discussed vaccines with them previously, they’ve told me absolute horror stories- family members becoming paralysed, chip implanted in them, mark of the beast etc.

Can you share your experience of receivingthe covid vaccine?

I had the AstraZeneca jab four weeks ago (teacher in SEN school so got invited to fill gaps in appointments or some such). My arm ached later that evening and for about 24-36 hours but that was it. It was definitely an ache rather than a pain.

I had AztraZennica vaccine last week. I woke up the following day with a massive headache. Took some paracetamol and went back to sleep. No problems since except a slightly painful arm at vaccination site.

DH had Pfizer vaccine three weeks ago and apart from painful, swollen arm he has had no problem and has continued working.

Pissedoff1234 · 20/02/2021 00:16

I had it almost 3 weeks ago. Was quick and pretty painless. My arm hurt for about a day and a half and then was fine. I didn't have any other side effects.

I'm abroad. Had pfizer jab 1 3 weeks ago. Slightly sore arm for a day or 2. Had jab 2 on Monday, sore arm for the day, felt rotten on Tuesday, fine by Wednesday morning. Most colleagues on the same schedule felt fine.

Ive been volunteering at our ambulance service vaccination hub. Had mine in mid January, (frontline volunteer), minor side effects as above. I had AZ, DH had Pfizer and no side effects at all. No apparent changes in me or him since then.

Our centre is pretty strict about everyone being observed for 15 mins post-jab, whichever vaccine they have, but to date they have vaccinated nearly 4000 people and not had an allergic reaction in any of them.

I can absolutely assure you the NHS would not be vaccinating their precious staff if the vaccine harmed them so they couldn't work any more.

Had the Oxford one on Thursday evening. Also didn't feel it go in.
Had a bit of a headache after (but I also had a slight one before so not sure if linked) and it went with paracetamol.
Next day had a sore arm and just felt tired
Went on a 3 mile walk and was unusually lethargic when I got back but that was it.
Arm still hurts (18 hours later) but only the same kind of ache as with the flu jab.

The sense of relief though - that's quite a side effect!!

I had the Pfizer one a couple of weeks ago. I'm 26 and got it at work. I got it on a Wednesday afternoon and was fine the rest of that day except my arm was a bit tender to touch at the injection site. Then at about 1pm on the Thursday a sore throat came on. By the time I got home at 3.30 I also had a temperature and my muscles were really achey. I felt rotten and was worried I'd have to call in sick to work the next day. I went to sleep at around 5pm and slept right through til 7 the next day but when I eventually woke up I felt back to normal and was able to do my shift with no issues. So yeah, I didn't feel great but it was nothing major and it didn't last long.

Pyewhacket · 20/02/2021 02:09

I had the Pfizer jab as we are NHS ITU. Felt like shit for 24 hours.

IHaveBrilloHair · 20/02/2021 02:11

I had the Oxford a couple of weeks ago, sore arm for a few days but thats all.

Jenasaurus · 20/02/2021 02:26

I had AZ in January and no side effects except a bit of a sore arm, my DS had Pfizer in December and he also had no side effects.

I work for the ambulance service, and had mine in the vaccination tent, I wonder if we work for the same trust. If its the same one it was in the HQ Carpark and recently moved to the car park adjacent.

Husband had the AZ vaccine a week or so ago as CEV. He had it at 10am felt fine that day, 11pm that day started feeling very fluish - shivers, fever, headache, very drowsy and that lasted until midday on the next day then fine after. He's normally never ill so I was worried when he got symptoms but it was just like 1 day of flu.

Shineonyoucrazy · 20/02/2021 06:35

I've had 2 doses of Pfizer a few weeks ago because of my occupation. Feel so lucky and grateful. Second was pure luck, right place right time to respond to a shout out for walk ins to use up a batch. After first one I had a sweet euphoria for several hours - giggled my way round Tesco. Sore arm for 24 hours (bad enough to wake me in the night) and definitely under par, bone tired, but less so with second. Apparently side effects less likely the older you are.

ImAncient · 20/02/2021 06:59

Had AZ yesterday. Feel achey & headache but small price to pay. I was euphoric. I cried. I’m vulnerable though & just so relieved that I’ve had it.

I’m not really sure of the difference between the two tbh. Just happy to have been vaccinated!

Londonnight · 20/02/2021 07:13

I had mine on Tuesday, AZ, no side effects at all,not even a sore arm. Son had his a week ago and no issues for him either. We had no choice of vaccine and were given a card to say which one we had which we need to take with us when we get the second one

Mindymomo · 20/02/2021 07:27

My DH had Pfizer vaccine Tuesday evening, sore arm and felt off for 24 hours, but back to normal after. He was given a sticker with the time of jab and told to sit and wait 15 minutes after. All very well organised and safe. Temperature checked on entering, told which vaccine you will get.

I’m glad you are getting your vaccine against your families wishes. It’s a real shame that they believe scare mongers rather than the real proof.

lorisparkle · 20/02/2021 07:51

My Dad had the Pfizer- had to stay afterwards, bit if a sore arm, a bit tired, nothing, would have had no problems working next day

My in laws had AstraZeneca- a bit tired but would have had no problems working next day

Me - AstraZeneca- fine next day but as day progressed headache and tiredness and very painful arm. Did carry on working but felt rubbish. Painful arm went on for many days.

My mum - fine for a few arm then high temperature very tired resolved within 48 hours

My colleagues- exceptionally varied. Some just a bit of a sore arm and a bit tired, others not well enough to work. All resolved within 48 hours and managed with paracetamol.

How ever one colleague had COVID before Christmas and is still only well enough to work 3 mornings a week. I would prefer all the vaccine side effects to the risk of that.

Milomonster · 20/02/2021 09:00

Had my first Pfizer dose yesterday. I work with very eminent academics in this field who jumped at the chance of having Pfizer and are absolutely fine. My parents had it with no side-effects and I have had none so far either. I’m very relieved and grateful.

I was originally a doubtful about having the vaccine. I found out I was unexpectedly entitled through work and got an appointment within 24 hours. I have to say as soon as I'd had it I felt a great sense of relief and liberated. I had the AZ one, ended up feeling sick after six hours - nothing like morning sickness though and I fancied and eat a massive plateful of pizza and oven chips easily. I'd would happily have my second vaccine right now. For me it was worth it for protection, to hopefully get my old life back, know others are out there enjoying their lives and to protect my family - I can't see any other way out of this unless we're vaccinated.

I'm still being very careful and living well within the guidelines, but if I'm out and can't avoid having others too near me, I feel a lot more relaxed now.

Really I would go for it, sounds silly but for me it's the best morning I've had all year
