Anyone had the vaccine yet?

Hi, not sure what i’m expecting here... I’ve got myself booked in for a covid jab as I’ve got various health conditions.

I’m extremely nervous as my family are anti vaccine... So I’ve not been able to tell them I’m going for it. When I have discussed vaccines with them previously, they’ve told me absolute horror stories- family members becoming paralysed, chip implanted in them, mark of the beast etc.

Can you share your experience of receivingthe covid vaccine?

I had Pfizer and was fine the day I had it, just felt like the flu jab (as in, I felt nothing!).
By late evening and the next say I had a sore arm, felt like I'd been punched. The day after that, it halved and then the next day gone altogether.

No other symptoms at all.

AnotherCovidQuestion · 19/02/2021 18:11

Oh, and, they have to tel you what you had and write it on a little card you have to keep safe until your second dose, when you bring it back with you to have the second dose added to it in a little box beneath the first dose.

BolloxtoGender · 19/02/2021 18:38

I had the first Pfizer one yesterday. Very easy process to book.

When I turned up at the centre, there were loads of lovely volunteers guiding me where to park, directing me where to go, where to stand or sit.
I was expecting the Oxford-Astrazenica because that is the main one in the UK, and was the one I preferred because I have suffered from allergic anaphalactic shocks before...so was a bit hesitant when they said it was Pfizer....but went ahead anyway. I think you get what you get, whatever is delivered.

I was observed for 30 mins afterwards instead of 15, and drove off after that. Not much side effects so far apart from a sore arm.

While I was sitting there, I thought there was such a positive buzz to the place, and what lovely people all the volunteers were (I think it must have been a retired doctor that injected me)....and I couldn't square that with all the hysteria and nastiness I have seen on social media. I just think people need to interact in real life more...and get a reality check maybe....apologies for the rambling...

I had mine yesterday (I’m 42). Had a rough night of shivering/sweating, and today have had a headache and felt “hungover” all day and have spent a lot of time in bed, but it seems to be lifting as the day goes on. My friend had hers at the same time and has had a sore arm, tiredness and aching.

Paddy1234 · 19/02/2021 18:51

I had vaccine at end of Dec - tiny bit of sore arm. That's it. I am a bit disappointed I haven't grown a new head Smile

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 19/02/2021 18:52

I haven't had mine yet but I am slightly apprehensive based on the masses of posts on here about side effects

I know people who have them are more likely to post that those who feel fine afterwards but on some of the previous threads the impression I was getting was that pretty much everyone had what I'd consider quite bad side effects - headaches, fatigue, sore arm etc

I have to admit to being a bit nervous myself but I try to rationalise that we're up to nearly 17 million now and no news reports of serious issues

Ohandanotherthing · 19/02/2021 18:54

I had the Pfizer. Didn't feel the jab at all and the only side effect was a sore and heavy arm the next day. Parents had the Oxford, Astra Zeneca one, they didn't feel it and and didn't even get a sore arm.

BackforGood · 19/02/2021 19:55

They are small needles, not children's ones, just regular small ones - it's all that's needed

I didn't realise that needles came in different sizes. That makes sense about not even feeling it then. Smile

Nootkah · 19/02/2021 21:09

I had my second dose today. Pfizer. First time round i had a sore arm for about three days and was a little tired and headachey. Im expecting the same this time.

againstthefamilygrain · 19/02/2021 21:44

Is it standard to be observed afterwards then @BolloxtoGender ?

AnotherCovidQuestion · 19/02/2021 21:49

With the Pfizer the keep you in a social distanced waiting area for 15 minutes afterwards

Cissyandflora · 19/02/2021 21:49

I had mine just over a week ago. Pfizer. I had no side effects at all. I think it’s unusual to have side effects. It’s not a live vaccine so you’re not given the illness. Quite a few of my friends have had it and not had any side effects either. Good luck.

BolloxtoGender · 19/02/2021 21:53

@againstthefamilygrain ‘Observed’ as in sat on a chair , one of about 60, socially distanced, while a few volunteers kept an eye over us and asked if we were ok every few minutes....before we head off to the car to drive out. The Dr who jabbed me came over to check that I was ok before I left.

In the vaccination centre I went to, it was standard for Everyone to wait like that for 15 minutes afterwards, in my case 30 minutes.

Cissyandflora · 19/02/2021 21:55

No one observed me but they did say to stay around the hospital area for 15 mins afterwards.

Rockbird · 19/02/2021 21:57

I had mine this afternoon 🎉🎉. AZ and also didn't feel the needle at all. If it wasn't for the sticker I wouldn't believe they'd done it!

I feel a little bit icky now but nothing that an early night won't fix.

SleepingStandingUp · 19/02/2021 21:57

I had Oxford. Muzzy head and mild headache for a few days.
Bloody DH got Pfizer and fed v special. No side effects.
Mom and her partner had Oxford, both feeling a bit sick.
Dad had Oxford, headache.
MIL had Oxford, had the chills and a flare on her arthritis and a few days of tiredness.

None of us have the mark of the beast or can communicate telepathically. No super powers or anything exciting.

Sister and best friend are having theirs tomorrow.

EarlGreywithLemon · 19/02/2021 22:00

Had Pfizer on Wednesday. Probably the least painful jab I’ve had. A bit of a sore arm, maybe a touch tired, but that was it!

Masterpieceontheshelf · 19/02/2021 22:51

I've had the Oxford, so have a few people I know.
All fine.
No side effects apart from sore arm

BackforGood · 19/02/2021 23:39

Is it standard to be observed afterwards then @BolloxtoGender ?

I was told, both when I got the phone call asking me to go, and then again when I was given the jab, not to drive for 10mins or so afterwards, but, as I walked, they were happy to let me go.

nevernotstruggling · 19/02/2021 23:40

I had mine 2 weeks ago. I'm in ss. It was fine. My arm was sore the next day. The end.

Kesparent · 19/02/2021 23:44

I had both mine. First slightly sore arm, second felt a bit fluey for 24 hours. But otherwise fine.

Tagsisbk · 19/02/2021 23:45

I had the Pfizer back in January (nhs worker).

I went in, filled a form in, got called over to be given the jab by one of the doctors from my work, asked questions, jabbed, sat in waiting room for compulsory 15 mins. Took 18 mins in total.

The next day I had a sore arm which lasted two days, no other symptoms

Tagsisbk · 19/02/2021 23:47

The observation period afterwards is the same as the flu jab and most other jabs, it’s because of the very very small risk of an anaphylactic reaction which would be treated immediately by the HCPs at the vaccination centre

MrsFezziwig · 19/02/2021 23:50

Had AZ - didn’t feel the injection at all. I had to wait 15 minutes afterwards but I think that was because I was driving, a non-driver I know was let go straight away. No issues that evening, the following day I felt off colour and was cold/shivery but fine the day after that.

I was given a sticker and also requested a lollipop for being brave, but they didn’t have any.

Alocasia · 19/02/2021 23:51

I had the Oxford one. Barely felt the injection itself. They asked anyone who was driving home to wait 10 minutes or so for observation before leaving. I felt fine though that evening did have flu-like symptoms, very achey and lethargic. Completely fine by mid-morning the next day though. I just kept thinking how much worse Covid could have made me feel. Looking forward to the second dose!
