Question about shielding

If you're asked to shield, when can you stop? If you have the first vaccine or do you have to wait to have both?
I'm asking on behalf of someone who is concerned they're going to be asked to shield as part of the new guidelines and hasn't yet had either vaccines!

Shielding is optional. Even with vaccines I think sheilding will continue for some time

Azerothi · 18/02/2021 11:29

I had yet another letter yesterday asking me to shield until at least the 31st March despite the vaccine. I had the first vaccine 4 weeks ago. I am extremely clinically vulnerable.

Cookerhood · 18/02/2021 11:29

Current shielders have just been extended to the end of March. It's not compulsory and never has been but does mean you are entitled to certain help, like priority supermarket slots etc.

Wingedharpy · 18/02/2021 11:31

Yep.
31st March it is - so far.
That's the directive whether vaccinated fully, partially or not at all from Gov.uk

ECV shielding email

Question about shielding
30ishiwish · 18/02/2021 11:54

Does anyone know how continuing to work, despite being ECV could possible impact life insurance or critical illness cover?

I’m currently shielding and I’ve had the first vaccine.

I want to go back to work now that numbers have reduced but my company want me to sign a document which states that I am knowingly going against government advice by returning to work. I worked through The last period of shielding in a October/ November and wasn’t asked to sign anything then.

OpheliasCrayon · 18/02/2021 11:56

You don't have to shield. It's advice not the law. I've had the letters from the start and I never have.

Shielding wasn’t in place in Oct/Nov?

Shielding wasn’t in place in Oct/Nov?

It depends where you were - in some areas with higher restrictions, shielding resumed

And it returned in all tier 4 areas in the autumn.

Continuing until at least 31 March, according to what's currently published

30ishiwish · 18/02/2021 13:04

Shielding was in place in the North West in November.
