Sore throat??

I’ve had a sore throat for 3 days, no other symptoms. Just checked out my throat in the mirror and my tonsils are covered in white spots.
This isn’t covid, is it? This is just the run of the mill tonsillitis(Christ knows where I’ve picked that up!!)
Talk me down from the mild panic that’s set in gradually over the past few days...

Why are you panicking?

Tonsillitis, bacterial version by the sounds of it. Even if it was Covid, why would you panic? Confused

ConorMasonsWife · 17/02/2021 15:16

Sounds like bacterial to tonsillitis. Try not to panic :)

Sore throat was my first symptom, followed 5 days later by loss of taste and smell.

Personally I'd get tested. Luckily I'm shielding or I would have been walking around for 5 days infecting others.

Bumofthejoke · 17/02/2021 15:45

Panicking because I don’t really want to catch covid!
@StrikeWhileTheCoffeeIsHot sis you have white spots on your tonsils too?

I think it sound more like tonsillitis but I'd test, I tested positive with a headache and my son a sore throat. I was able to get a test in an hour and results were back in 13hrs.

Bumofthejoke · 17/02/2021 18:36

I had a phone consultation with my GP earlier and have been prescribed antibiotics as the white spots are a bit of a giveaway for tonsillitis.
I feel ok, just a bit tired. But I’m always tired!

I had a sore throat before testing positive, then loss of taste and smell. No cough or high temp!

BunsyGirl · 17/02/2021 18:53

White spots means bacterial tonsillitis. I get it all the time. My GP has advised that I don’t need to take a Covid test even when I get a high temperature. Be careful that you change face masks frequently as it is easy for them to pick up bacteria. I stopped using reusable cotton ones for that reason. I only use surgical ones now, wear once and then bin them.

Could be tonsillitis, could be covid. You won't know unless you take a test. Most people with covid have mild symptoms. I've had covid and was straight back at work after the 10 day isolation. I'd try not to panic honestly- I think most of the population will have had covid very soon.

Bumofthejoke · 17/02/2021 20:06

I’m quietly confident it is ‘just’ tonsillitis

I think the white spots are a giveaway for bacterial tonsillitis. I’ve had it loads of times - weirdly my throat isn’t as sore as the sore throats I get with a cold, but I feel queasy, exhausted and headachey with it.

milkysmum · 18/02/2021 09:19

I would still take the test so you know. More for the sake of identifying contacts who may have been in contact with you if it is covid. I'm a nurse and we had outbreak at work. At least one staff definitely was 'certain' she had tonsillitis but turned out to be covid so worth checking.
