Exactly @Lemons1571

I expect whichever variant spreads the most easily in children and teenagers to have a field day infecting school staff and parents - many of whom will be half-vaccinated - and so get plenty of chances to mutate into something that can beat the vaccines.

And even more practice when some of them windup in hospital and encounter half vaccinated NHS staff.

Half vaccinating people and just reopening schools without doing anything more to prevent the spread in schools would be so idiotic if it happened in a film we'd find it an implausibly stupid plot point.

No such thing as half vaccinated. How many times do people have to tell you.

Look an easy example for you to see

You have that "half vaccinated" spiel on a short cut key by now, princessnutsnuts?

PrincessNutNuts · 18/02/2021 16:34

Only on Mumsnet is wanting the JVCI most vulnerable to have full protection an outlandish position.

Extending the intervals like this is just asking for a supply problem that jeopardises second doses.

And a weak antibody response is perfect practice for the virus.

@TwirpingBird

I have made the conscious decision not to care anymore. From april, I am seeing whoever I can and I am using my own brain. Articles like the OP posted are irrelevant. Doesnt matter if people think this is only the beginning. I am done, as are many others I know. If we arent nearly done now, with vaccines etc, then we will never be done, and I am in no way willing to accept wasting my life away anymore. Life isnt paused, its disappearing. OP is just sharing fear.
I agree completely with this.

Despite being told this stuff over and over and over again you still do this

Right the AZ working better with a longer 12 week gap has all ready repeatedly been explained to you on previous threads. Also research links added. So can't be arsed to do it again.

This is a new one for Pfizer

Try and keep up🤓

As for supply both the suppliers and the UK vaccine taskforce have stated by April supplies will increase. In fact two interviews I have seen government officials have suggested we could even double vaccinations in the spring/summer.

@SillyOldMummy

Well, I'm seriously gonna run out of things to watch on Netflix soon so it had better NOT be just the start!
Thank God I have discovered Korean dramas (k-dramas), there are loads of them and they are the fluffy escapism I need right now. Highly recommend them, the production values are fab. I recommend Groundhog Day too. The film, not every day life at the moment.

@vera99 Thanks for the recombinant New Scientist link. That is worrying, I hadn't seen.

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow I try to take every day at a time but I worry about the mutations too. Trying not to think about it too much.

PrincessNutNuts is correct that suboptimal immunity after one dose of the vaccine (which is what I assume she means by "half vaccinated") could result in an increase in the likelihood of the emergence of vaccine resistance.

This article gives a measured analysis of the risk and why (hopefully) it won't:

Thank you.

I am concerned about what effect on the viruses evolution all these post-jab care home outbreaks might have if the virus uses them as training grounds to mutate to evade immunity.

I agree with the scientists and medics quoted in that article who say that it's an unwise risk to vaccinate the way we are.

And it seems obvious to me that by opening up and increasing transmission we would give the virus even more goes at meeting immunity and beating it.

I'm a big fan of the precautionary principle. If it were up to me I wouldn't take this risk with British lives.
