How long for a negative PCR?

DH was due a long awaited op last week but tested positive at his pre op (at that point no symptoms), the rest of the family tested positive the next day (youngest had a slight sore throat and I had a headache), but coronavirus symptoms followed fairly swiftly!

My question is his op was rescheduled for 3 weeks time, so 2 after isolation ends. Obviously they'll need to retest at pre op, whats the likelihood of that still showing positive? I do lateral flow for work and now am not to gets for 90 days as it may still show (I doubt it as lateral flow was negative the day of my positive PCR).

According to the NHS website you shouldn't have another test for 90 days as it may still show up as positive.

That was my understanding, so do you think the hospital will just not do one or will delay? Guess he'll have to call them and see.

My guess is they won't do one, they will know that he has had it and has isolated and will be confident that he is no longer contagious

My understanding is that it will be ok to go ahead with the op as he won’t be contagious in 3 weeks, but if tested may still be positive. My neighbour is a nurse on a covid ward where patients there need to be operated on and hospital has different theatres in place for covid patients and non covid patients.

I also want to know the answer to this - I tested positive 10 days ago and need to test positive on Saturday (day 13) to be released from isolation (I’m in a different country). The only symptom I had was a very subtle sore throat - nothing else. But I still have it, so not sure if I will test positive or not - my day 1 was for entry requirements, I’ve no idea when the infection actually started.

I’ve read a lot about it and think the average time to a negative is around 2-3 weeks for mild to moderate cases but you are contagious for a lot loss (6-9 days).
