When would side effects start for Pfizer?

If you've had a fever etc. When did it start ?

I had mine yesterday morning and so far just a headache and sore arm.

Just wondering what else I might be in for !

I had mine yesterday afternoon. Slight tenderness at injection site, that’s it. I think if there was going to be anything more systemic, it would have happened by now - I’ve seen some people mention 10 hours.

How long after the jab did your headache start?

JustAnotherBrick · 17/02/2021 09:30

My arm hurt straight away and just got steadily worse. The rest started started 8 hours after the jab - I thought it was too soon to be side effects but it definitely was. I had a sore throat and mild temperature and generally felt a bit grotty. Couldn’t really say about muscle pain and fatigue as I get these all the time due to long Covid. All side effects gone by about 36 hours - arm a tiny bit tender for about 4 days - and now I feel great. Probably better than I did before the jab, which I’m finding weird. Definitely worth it.

JustAnotherBrick · 17/02/2021 09:31

Oh yes and headache from about 8 to about 36 hours. Then went.

I agree, I think you’d have felt any other effects by now.

I highly recommend this informative explanation of what’s going on in your body at the moment and causing the expected side effects

@PuzzledObserver headache started around an hour afterwards. So maybe wasn't caused by it ? I have a very very slight headache now. But barely noticeable. Slightly sore arm. That's it.

DH and I had Pfizer vaccine 2 weeks ago. No side effects at all so far, not even an aching arm.

PuzzledObserver · 17/02/2021 10:22

Thanks, @JustAnotherBrick. I was a bit nervous if I’m honest, because I have had Covid and I’d read that makes you more likely to have side effects from the vaccine.

I shall happily get on with life while my immune system quietly does its stuff.

I trust your headache will go soon, @unmumsymummy21. If that’s the worst you get, then happy days!

unmumsymummy21 · 17/02/2021 10:26

@PuzzledObserver hope so. I'm also a little bit air hungry. But I think that's anxiety.

First dose - nothing, slightly sore arm day 2

Second dose - about 24 hours after my jag I had a pounding headache, felt like I had a temperature, and could have fallen asleep on the floor at work. Took paracetamol and felt fine.

Assume that just means it's working as my immune system kicked in when it recognised the protein second time round.

PuzzledObserver · 17/02/2021 12:00

@unmumsymummy21 the mind is certainly a very powerful thing. A few hours after I had my jab, I thought I could feel a little bit of discomfort at the top of my left arm. I normally have jabs in my left arm, as I'm right-handed.

I went to a drive-through site. I had it in my right arm.

Alicenwonderland · 17/02/2021 12:02

I had it yesterday and no side effects so far other than a really sore arm. My Dad is late 60s and he had no side effects at all, not even a sore arm.

unmumsymummy21 · 17/02/2021 12:03

@PuzzledObserver haha this also happened to me. My right arm is sore too Grin

I called GP in any case who prescribed some beta blockers. Might as well try them to get me through this. I do have chest discomfort as in breathing weirdly. But it's not the vaccine, it's anxiety. Sigh..

@unmumsymummy21 are you on anti-anxiety meds routinely? I started on antidepressants (Sertaline) about 18 months ago, for low mood. It also did wonders for my anxiety. One day, I suddenly noticed all was calm and still - the background anxiety had just gone. The periods of stillness grew, until I was basically calm all the time except when there was something to be anxious about.

I came off them at the back end of last year, but I am glad I had them for that time, and if things got that bad again, I wouldn't hesitate to ask the GP to prescribe again.

DoctorYang · 17/02/2021 12:18

I had a sore arm after the jab and for 2 days after.

Had a sore head on day 5. MIght be unrelated but I don't usually get headaches. Was also very tired!

Day 10, I suddenly developed a hard, hot lump at the vaccine site, my arm was swollen and very achy. Disappeared the next day.

unmumsymummy21 · 17/02/2021 12:29

@PuzzledObserver I have a packet of setraline here! I haven't had geb guts to take them. But I should !

OP posts:
Alicenwonderland · 17/02/2021 12:32

I'm on Sertaline, it's amazing! I've been on it a year now, I wish I'd taken it a lot sooner, it would have made things so much easier.

unmumsymummy21 · 17/02/2021 12:34

You guys are definitely tempting me !

OP posts:
unmumsymummy21 · 17/02/2021 12:38

I took one tablet at my lowest ebb and couldn't handle that I felt worse so I never looked at them again. Perhaps trying them right now, when I'm actually feeling less depressed is the key.

OP posts:
EarlGreywithLemon · 17/02/2021 13:20

I think the key is to persevere for a couple of weeks at least with the anti depressants (Citalopram taker here). The first few days it made me feel really tired and a bit like I was slightly tipsy. Mind you, I was at such a low ebb that this was vastly preferable to the crushing anxiety I was having before. Then the side effects wore off gradually and I felt like me again. The first glass of wine I had after starting the citalopram though completely floored me. I felt drunk as a skunk, but luckily in a happy and giggly way. That got better after a bit too.

EarlGreywithLemon · 17/02/2021 13:21

When I say “I felt like me” I mean like me minus the anxiety!

unmumsymummy21 · 17/02/2021 13:22

Did you guys gain weight with it ? I'm very keen on losing some weight before summer and this is a big thing for me..

OP posts:
EarlGreywithLemon · 17/02/2021 13:29

No, I didn’t. I gained weight at the same time by coincidence because I had just started a sedentary job that involved long hours and often a dinner of chips and alcohol in some pub with my team and clients!! But I was able to lose that weight very successfully once I sorted myself out —and got off my chair once in a while— and have kept it off ever since. So it wasn’t the Citalopram.

Alicenwonderland · 17/02/2021 14:25

I lost weight as mine killed my appetite. I was really low (nervous breakdown) when I started taking them. The first week was quite bad side effect wise, they gradually decreased and I started feeling positive effects within about a month. Everyone's different and I think it depends how low you are when you start them. My BF had very few side effects when she started. It's really worth sticking with them in my opinion. I worried it wouldn't make me, me if you know what I mean. Anxiety was just how I functioned. It absolutely doesn't change you though, you just don't get the cycle off anxious thoughts and irrational feelings.

Roussette · 17/02/2021 14:36

I had the first jab 25 hours ago and just have a banging headache.

And with the flu jab I was very tired and felt yuk, and the pneumonia jab my arm was crimson and enormous and I spent a day in bed, and felt really ill.

So if this is it, I'm happy. But I know my DH who had AZ jab and others I know, it took till about 36 hours for it to affect them. Maybe Pfizer is different.
