New shielding list - vaccines

MonicaGellerBing · 17/02/2021 08:14

I am included on the new shielding list that was announced yesterday. We are being told we are now eligible for the vaccine yet I'm still not able to book online and my gp surgery acted as though they didn't know what I was talking about. So frustrating

I think you'll be vaccinated in group 6 although towards the beginning of it so hopefully they will invite you soon, it was only announced yesterday so will take a few days for them to get invites out.

MonicaGellerBing · 17/02/2021 08:20

Yes true, I just need to be patient. I just thought I'd be able to book online this morning but I'll just have to wait.

You need to be patient. They've added 1.7 million people onto the list that's a lot of people, expecting it sorted overnight is unreasonable

Helenluvsrob · 17/02/2021 08:24

Gps were only told at the same time as you about the huge in crease in shielding.
They have clinics booked this week snd no certain vax supply next week.

Miracles are being worked as regards staffing clinics etc but there is a limit. Give them 48hrs to process and plan . It’s not possible to cancel this weeks cohort and pop the new cohort in !

justanotherneighinparadise · 17/02/2021 08:31

Where is the new list?

IrmaFayLear · 17/02/2021 08:33

How do you know if you’re on this new list? Surely it’s not self id?

Redcherries · 17/02/2021 08:35

On the letter to drs it says they’ll find out who is added when the letters are generated on the main system I think.

MonicaGellerBing · 17/02/2021 08:38

It's been all over the news since yesterday who has been added to the list and I am definitely part of the new criteria.

You had a shielding letter already? Wow.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 17/02/2021 08:41

They haven’t really said what the new criteria is have they? It is a combination of risk factors. Have you had notification that you should shield? If you have had that then I think it said you would be able to book online as part of group 4.

My husband, and a friend, have both had the first jab and have both received a new letter telling them to shield till the end of March. It makes me wonder what they know about the vaccine that they aren’t telling us. In the paper this morning they are writing about a new strain that the vaccine can’t cope with. Let’s face it, this is never going away and we have to learn to live with it like flu.

digital.nhs.uk/coronavirus/risk-assessment/population#agreed-threshold-for-adding-people-to-the-shielded-patient-list

If you look hard enough then the threshold is published. It looks like an absolute risk of 5:1000 or 0.5% or 10 times the baseline risk - relative risk 10. They also talk about the highest risk 2% of the population so I imagine that the score between 1 and 100 is a percentile score and if your score is above 98 you would be asked to shield? But I haven’t seen that last bit written anywhere.

The tool they are using is here:

qcovid.org/Calculation

Also in the letter to GPs it sounds to me as though the GPs will be vaccinating the new shielders at the beginning of group 6.

@DoctorYang

You had a shielding letter already? Wow.
They have been emailing shielding people for some time (though I don't know where they got my email from). New emails came last night to people already shielding, I imagine also to people newly shielding?
MonicaGellerBing · 17/02/2021 13:03

Just had a call, vaccine booked for tomorrow. I'm so pleased 😄

If the absolute risk is 0.0104% but the relative risk is 20.8 is that likely to generate a shielding letter?
