Random invites for vaccinations

honkytonkheroe · 16/02/2021 07:46

Hi, I'm just interested, does anyone know people who has been invited for the vaccine but they do not fit the criteria for current vaccinations? Yesterday my brother in law (53 with no health conditions and not working for NHS, social care etc) got invited and also my husband's friend (51, no health conditions and again not with a job that would attract it) was invited. Neither see the logic. Anyone else?

Yes, lots.
Individual areas are managing their individual populations. If they are assigned x number of vaccines to be used by y time, in z location- that’s what needs to be done to hit the target.
The more people they vaccinate the better for everyone. A faster ‘imperfect’ roll out is better than a slower one with strict adherence to categories.
Those in charge will know the local situation.

So are you saying that as my brother in law is local to me, my local area has got to his age group? I ask because that is also my sister and husband's age group.

OP posts:
XiCi · 16/02/2021 07:54

They must be down to that age group in your area I guess. Whereabouts do you live?

XiCi · 16/02/2021 07:55

Or maybe your bil and friends DH have underlying conditions that they don't think are anyone else's business

DinosaurDiana · 16/02/2021 07:58

I vaccinated a woman last week who was in the right age bracket, no health conditions. Her DH who was with her, two years older and at the same GP, had not had an invite.
The system does seem strange sometimes.

MrsWombat · 16/02/2021 07:59

There will be some logical reason for it. Doctors surgery, closeness to vaccination centre, visited a GP in the last year, medical issues they've not disclosed a relative. My in laws were called up at the same time even though they were in completely different categories. Just be happen for them and hope it means you'll be called up soon too. Smile

honkytonkheroe · 16/02/2021 08:01

Swindon. No they don't have underlying conditions. They were very confused.

OP posts:
honkytonkheroe · 16/02/2021 08:04

I'd like to think it was because our local area is ahead. I come under ECV so have had it so makes no difference to me personally but most people I know are in the 50+ category.

OP posts:
XiCi · 16/02/2021 08:12

There will be people though who have underlying conditions and don't discuss them, want to keep it private. You don't know for sure these people don't have underlying conditions.

Zampa · 16/02/2021 08:16

DH and I are both in group 6, live together but different GPs.

I've got a vaccine appointment this week. His GP surgery are still working through Group 5.

I would have thought that my geographical area would get through all of one group first before moving onto the next.

nordica · 16/02/2021 08:24

There was a thread in my local Facebook group with lots of healthy people between 20 and 50 who had been invited or already had their vaccination, not in any priority groups due to their jobs and not carers. Sounded like an error by a GP surgery.

Can't help feeling very envious, I'm desperate to have mine and probably have to wait well into summer. Still, of course anyone who gets invited should go and have it and not question it.

happytoday73 · 16/02/2021 08:28

Why are they confused? ... They are over 50 so in the first phase... Due a jab between 15th Feb and April.
They are just getting it slightly earlier in that time than might have expected.. That could be for a whole range of different reasons due to local roll out...some surgery's will have high number in higher catagories/others less... If each GP surgery is given so many slots at vaccine centre they will get to lower groups faster. Alternatively they could have had investigations in previous 2 years that put them higher up list.

MissClarke86 · 16/02/2021 08:28

Do they have a high BMI? This can put people into group 6

honkytonkheroe · 16/02/2021 08:29

I think I can honestly say that my brother in law who I have known since I was 14 and my husband's close friend, both who told us they had an invite and were very surprised about it (when they could have kept it to themselves) are not hiding secret medical conditions. I think my sister might be aware that her husband has been to the doctors/been diagnosed with something/takes medication.Hmm

It hadn't occurred to us that local areas could be ahead. We also thought it was too soon for the over 50s. Also, there seems no consistency as my brother in laws sisters are local and older, as is my sister. However, you may have hit the nail on the head when you mentioned previous investigations. My brother in law was in hospital only a few months ago for some tests, but nothing came of it. What category would that make him then, because I didn't know that was a criteria?

We were just thinking it was an error too, but obviously he was going to go and not question it.

There may be something coded onto the GP records for that patients which is flagging them as CV,

It could be something from years ago which is no longer relevant but the code was never removed.

I guess GP's may just be searching for patients with certain codes and sending invites. They may not have time to thoroughly review every patient's medical records.

Plus everyone is due the vaccine eventually so no harm inviting them early

honkytonkheroe · 16/02/2021 08:40

My husband's friend has no health conditions but he was hospitalised with pleurisy once and has had pneumonia at least once. I wondered if that factored in to it. However, that also doesn't for the priority order. Or perhaps the priority is just in its simplest form for the public and it's more detailed for medics.

BigusBumus · 16/02/2021 08:42

My DH had his last week. 52 and no underlying health conditions. He asked when he got there and it turned out he was given Warfarin for suspected Pulmonary embolisms after a bad car crash 21 years ago. The computer algorithm picks out anything like that from your medical history even if you don't think it's relevant. There will be something in the history that has made them an at risk group even if they can't pinpoint it themselves.

SarahLox77 · 16/02/2021 08:44

People in their early sixties with no health issues were being vaccinated a couple of weeks ago in my area; I have several friends in this criteria. More recently I have heard of the odd 40-something being randomly contacted locally too, much to their surprise.
Nothing for DH yet though (early 50s).

I think you're right. We didn't really know how it worked but that does seem to be the case.

Some of it will be people having undisclosed heath conditions, I wouldn't be letting everyone know if I had a heath condition.

ImFree2doasiwant · 16/02/2021 08:48

I got a text yesterday asking me to contact the GP that day, I assumed it would be for "leftover" vaccines on the day. I'm 43.

likeamillpond · 16/02/2021 08:50

Are they both fat?
I believe people who are really fat are getting called in to be vacinated along with vulnerable people and before the underc 65s.
Not sure how much truth is in this.
